Which tonneau cover? Opinions please

Hi all,

Well, I'm going to buy a new cover for my 6.5 bed tomorrow. I'm looking at the following:

1. Extang Tri-fold soft cover = $460.00 CDN
2. Extang Solid Tri-fold cover = $850.00 CDN

I'm leaning towards the solid cover as it offers more security.

What cover do you think I should choose?

Or, what other covers would you recommend? Are there any better covers for security or will a thief get into any cover?

Thanks guys!

Undercover

Got mine today, looks good. The only thing I do not like is they say not to ride with the cover not fastened flat or the cover may break where the hinge tabs are. So if you have to haul anything that is just a little to high you should not do it.

Where in Canada are you? I've been shopping around for a tri-fold and bought a Downey Quick Flip today from TonneauCovers4Less.com that came to $297US with shipping which I figure will be around $375 Canadian.

Living on the US/CAN border makes this deal worth it to me, using a shipping depot on the US side of the border to have the tonneau shipped to, that's going to cost another $10US. This tonneau appears to be comparible to the Extang from what I can tell, but I won't know for sure until I can actually pick it up.

Canadian tire carry the Freedom line of tri-folds made by Extang for $430 CAN, and I think they have them on sale for 20% occasionally(according to the testimonials on the website).

It's not one of the models you asked about but if you need a cover that can fold I'd say you can't beat the BakFlip G2. I've had mine for about 15 months now and love it. Sits flush with the bedrails, folds in 4 parts so you can access to just as much of the bed as you need, can be completely removed by one person in about 5 minutes by just undoing a couple of wing nuts. If you have a locking tailgate, it secures the truck bed. And, you can drive with it folded up. Mine ran about $650 as I recall.

I looked at a lot of folding covers before I bought my fold-a-cover g4 elite and man it rocks. A friend and I installed it in half a day with some beers. It has dual locks and it's somewhat easy to take off if need be. I liked it so much on my 05 when I got my 08 I bought another one. There's a fold-a-cover sticker on it but comes off easily for a clean look. Cover fits flush and even has a little bit of texture on the cover so if you get close to it at least there's some style. I drove 3 days from TX to VA and during one of those days it rained so heavy for 12 hrs I used my GPS to see where I was going, when I got to my destination it had leaked a little but just on the sides of the bed inside but there weren't any puddles! I highly recommend and if you don't like it I will pay for your plane ticket to VA so you can kick me in the junk!

I can't speak for a hard cover. They are look nice & the added security would be a plus.

I have the Extang Tri-fold soft cover on my 05' and love it. I had it now for over 2 years with no problems. It is very convenient to fold up and take off yourself if you need the extra room.

+1 on the bakflip. I spent the better part of 2 months researching all the different one people have recommended and the Bakflip looks the best. The flush mount is awesome and I can have it off in 5 minutes by myself.
