90 day wait to wash new tonneau?

Hey,
I just had my new tonneau cover installed about 2 1/2 weeks ago, in the owners guide it says that you should not wash/wax the new lid for 90 days which is very long for me to not wash my car with soap. I can understand waxing, but no soap for 90 days? So I was just wondering for all of you who owned new tonneaus, how long did you wait to just wash your lid with soap? And if you didn't wait the recommended period before washing, was there any adverse affects?

thanks...

Totally horrible information. You can wash and polish your heart out. Heck, you can even put a glaze such as Meguiar's #5 or #7 on there. Just don't use a wax or sealant for 30+ days as it can seal the paint and disallow proper out-gassing from the paint, which can in theory potentially cause the paint to lift away from the surface of the cover.
