Tailgate weight capacity?

Don't know if this is the right place for this but I didn't really know where else to put it. Does anyone know how much weight the tailgate can handle when flipped down? I have an 06 SCREW short bed and I want to see if I can fit my motorcycle that has a 61.8 in long wheelbase and weighs about 550 lb (with a bed extender cage around it)? thanks.

That's nothing for our tailgates. I've had 700lb atv's sitting on the tailgate.

I have hauled my motorcycle (66 inch wheelbase, weighs over 700lbs) in my short bed several times with no problems. Go for it.

Your tailgate is as strong as your tailgate cables, old cables will snap under load due to wear and rust.
Spend $20 on new cables if they are worn or old.

The answer to your question is... more weight than a Tundra's tailgate can handle!

Heck !

During my research of Toyotas, I heard of several Tundra tailgates that could not hold their own weight ! They were just flat falling off ! Doh !

And BTW, I'm not a Toyota hater. I'm just stating the facts.

The tailgate on mine or any Ford for that matter is made to withstand more than I can lift on it. I've ramped rototillers, huge snowblowers, heavy furniture you name it with my weight on it also and have had zero issues. It is the last thing I worry about.

These tailgates can take pretty much abything you could throw at it.

Gun safes on the edge didn't seem to be a broblem.

i put a little to much weight on my tailgate. bent one of the cable bolts, bent the tailgate to where it barely likes to shut and open now. apparently 2300lbs is to much :lol
