tailgate gap cover

Ive tried a search and found nothing so im gonna ask
Has anybody heard of/have/used/or know someone with a tailgate gap cover
I found these online
http://www.cargocatch.com/shop/produ...roducts_id=266
http://www2.northerntool.com/product/200334027.htm

I like the first one better because its removable, but ive never seen one before so I was wondering if anybody else has any experiance with them
Would like to get one for myself and one as Xmas gift for my father pending getting some more info on them
Thanks

I made one for next to nothing from stuff I had in the garage.

One piece of PVC pipe 1-3/4" dia (four foot)
One piece 3/8" plastic panel 5'X5"
Four or five nuts/bolts.
drill the pipe 'centered' to the plastic
drop the pipe into the gap

Even if the pipe you have isn't wide enough to 'grab' between the bed and tailgate, you can wrap duct tape round each end until you get a snug fit.

Make two of them and then buy your dad an $80 gift.

Dont know bout the catchall but the Bully is junk. Comes in pieces and sticks with 3m. That stuff works pretty good on trim but not here. Came loose 3rd time I opened my gate. Returned it next day. Idea is good, just need to find a better product. Finding sites with reviews will tell ya alot.

If you could cushion the pipe so not to scratch the paint, a lot more would go for it. Tis a good idea. Patent that puppy and make a killin.

This sounds like a good idea-but can you open and close the tailgate with it in or does it only work with tailgate open
Thanks for the input

The tailgate has to be all the way down.
The pipe fits in the gap.

If your load is such that it spills onto the tailgate when lowered then this doesn't work unless you clean the gap for the pipe.

when i got my linex done i had them spray everything in that gap so there is no paint to get scratched. Looks great. Just a thought if you ever want to go the linex route. i paid 500 for mine.

I don't know how the '06 model is setup but my '99 has 'drain holes' at the bottom of the tailgate.

If the holes get clogged up, water gets inside the tailgate(easily) but cannot get out.

My last pickups' tailgate rusted along the bottom of where it was supposed to drain.

An easy test would be to spray the tailgate real good with a hose.
Then later remove it and shake it over your head.
If you hear some sloshing around, that ain't good.

Its a great idea, but unfortunantly wouldnt work for me -when we put stuff in the bed its usually gravel or dirt or similar and filled with tail gate up, so I need something to prevent the dirt getting into the gap before the tailgate is down
Thanks

That really helps, based on the photos, looks like you cannot close the tail gate with that in place....correct?
