I don't see why not - there's some clown a few blocks down the street that carpets the whole outside of vehicles.

You could Line-X the whole outside, the question would be why? It will likely be a very expensive (compared to paint) and you need to ask what you are trying to acheive with it? A good Urethane paint will adhere at least as well, resist scratches 90% as well, and is likely to be a lot less $$$. Probably look nicer too in the end.

Not say it is a completely wrong thought, just trying to understand what you are trying to accomplish.

I would think it would run rather hot, Line-x would definately keep the heat in the engine bay.

Pics of entire exterior with LINE-X Xtra. They look darn good and perfect for off-roaders.

This is a gray color match (not black).

Thumbs up Not bad at all

I'd like to see one of those vehicles up close and in person before I did that to my truck, but that (surprisingly) doesn't look to bad. If you plan on doing alot of off-roading I can see how that would be nice. I don't have Line-X myself, but my friend had the bed of his El Camino done and you really have to try to scratch the stuff. About how much do you figure this is going to cost you if you do it?

Also, has anyone Line-X'ed the inside of their cab? I remember hearing somewhere that Line-X has good insulation properties, both thermal and acoustic.

Lots of people do interiors - especially if you do a lot of mud, great product. On the exterior, I've seen trucks done in Line-X and urethane paint. Neither protects from dents and the urethane is almost as tough to scratch.

My thought would be if its to be different or a "style" thing (we all like different things), that would be one thing. But if it is for sheetmetal protection... might be very slightly better.

I asked my local dealer about doing the inside of one of my Jeeps. His price was around $500 - even though he knew I was bringing a completely bare tub on a trailer. I would think he'd want at least that for the outside on a disassembled truck and a lot more if the truck was all together - lots of prep and masking.

Truckgasm, what would you typically charge... kind of curious... maybe my local guy just doesn't like me.

If it was an offroad vehicle and not a daily driver I would consider it...def. wouldnt have to worry about hitting limbs at the deer lease any more

We LINE-X a lot of Jeeps. Typically, after a year or two, if the Jeep has been taken off road, then it has some scratches on the exterior and the carpeting has mildewed. So, Jeep owners are looking for something that will protect the vehicle and look nice. We charge $540 for Jeep tubs and $640 for the exterior for black. If you want Xtra, the price increases. You may or may not be aware of what's going on in the DFW area regarding the Barnett Shale: Practically every oil and gas company that exists is here drilling for gas. We are seeing more and more requests for LINE-X on rocker panels for these trucks that must travel off road.

Here's sort of some close ups of Xtra. It has a very light texture, you only really need a heavier texture in the truck's bed. FYI, LINE-X and Dupont spent over two years and went through over 30 formulations to come up with the Xtra product. It's good stuff, really. All the pics show white spots, those are reflections from the camera's flash. It's hard to take a good picture of something that reflects light a lot (or is black).

I'll post this pic, but it's a little different. The Xtra has intentionally been "puddled". These are mirror inserts for an '05 Tundra. In the close-up you can see the light reflecting from the metallic flakes that are in the Xtra. The color is Spectra Blue Mica which is similiar to the newer Tundra's Nautical Blue. It's a really good looking paint color.

That stuff looks similar to the texture of the bottom side of the rock panels on my truck

the truck is heavy enough already....

there is a 94-97 Firebird (v6) in town that has the bottom 1/4 linex'ed. Its a promotionaly car. the car is white, with dark grey (black) linex. Cracks me up b.c those v6s are such pigs anyways then you go and add 200-300 pounds of linex on it

Just think how much that would cut down on your detailing costs and time!
