Dupont Nason vs Xtra

Hey TruckGasm, thought I'd make this a new thread.

What are the key differences between Nason and Xtra? Especially as far as durability, fade resistance, etc? I wanted Xtra but it only comes in black. So my local dealer offer up Dupont Nason as a replacement that can be color matched. Do you think it will hold up and look as good as long as Xtra? I know Xtra is guaranteed to not fade for the life of the Liner - what about Nason?

Thanks again in advance.

Funny forum name, Mikey!

Xtra is a higher solids product and contains a "Kevlar Micro Pulp". Dupont and LINE-X took a year to formulate Xtra. Nissan tested Xtra and it FAR exceded there target results. It's a darn good product and we are very lucky to have it. True, Xtra is currently only available in black, but they are working on offering Xtra in colors. I've seen several test color-matched Xtra bedliners and I have several Xtra color samples. Keep in mind that we are only told some basic chemical information since the actual formula is a trade secret.

Dupont Nason is a urethane based one-stage automotive paint. When I got into this business about 3 years ago, not all training dealers taught their newbees how to use Nason for color matched bedliners. I was lucky to have trained with a dealer that had been using Nason for many years. Nason is less expensive than Xtra.

So, to answer your questions: Nason is not as durable as Xtra. If you're going to work that truck bed hard every day, I do not suggest Nason, you could eventually wear through the Nason. Keep in mind that Nason is durable but won't stand up to constant and hard friction. If you are an occasional Home Depot goer who perhaps may load some wood in the bed now and then, then I would say Nason is fine. Neither Nason or Xtra should fade or lose its gloss. Xtra is included in LINE-X's written nationwide lifetime warranty not to fade, lose its gloss, or come off. Nason is not, however, the individual dealer can warranty Nason.

I religiously use Nason on LINE-X that's been applied to rocker panels, toolboxes, bumpers, entire exteriors of vehicles, etc. These areas don't need the durability of Xtra. I sprayed my outdoor furniture with LINE-X and black Nason and it's been outside for about 2.5 years and it still looks like the day I sprayed it.

First pic is LINE-X with Xtra. Second pic is color-matched LINE-X with Nason.
