I bought a new F-250 about a week ago. I tryed to talk them into getting me a spray-on at dealer cost included with the sale. My sales guy told me they dont get a break on price. I would think the dealer would want to make some money, and in exchange send volume to the sprayed bedliner company. Is my sales guy telling the truth? Now I'm looking around and finding prices around $450. My other bedliner only cost $395 a couple years ago... Is $450 a good price these days for a short bed?
It's VERY common that auto dealers get a "wholesale" price. I don't know of any dealers that don't offer a wholesale price to auto dealers although I suppose it's possible.
Spray-on bedliners are petroleum based products. Prices have increased since last summer when oil hit the roof. But some bedliners will be less expensive than others because they are all not the same. For example, Rhino is 100% polyurethane, which is less expensive than say LINE-X because LINE-X is a blend of polyurethane and polyurea, which is more expensive. Also, there are high quality and low quality chemicals. For example, a barrel of isocyanate from BASF or Dow Chemical is going to cost more than a barrel of isocyanate that comes from "over seas".
$450 for a short bed under the rails is an accurate average price.
$450.00 is right for a short bed, I was at Line X last week getting mine done and hats what there price list stated, I have the 6.5 foot long bed on the new Supercrews and mine came to $490.00.
I was very impressed with the service, it only took about 3 hours and they gave me the owners car to drive back to work

I got Line-X sprayed this past Tuesday at the dealer in Dalton GA and paid $420 after tax for a 6.5' short bed. Did an awesone job too, but had to wait 4 hours and 15 minutes but that does not reflect the price.
6.5' bed Rhino was $490 last week. Regular price was $430, plus a $60 upcharge for graphite gray because of adding color and UV protectant. Black takes 2-3 hours, adding color was 3-4 hours. They got mine done in 4 hours.
I got mine done on my '05 last October. I went with Line-X, and paid just under $500 for under the rails. I have a 6.5 ft. box. So yeah, I'd say you're getting an accurate price.

My would have only taken 2 hours but when I got there the owner said that on the last truck they had done the day before a part on the machine they used to do the job had broken. He said they had ordered one overnight and that they were just waiting on the FedEx truck to get there. The truck showed up a couple hours later and they got right to work on my truck. I waited because I had driven 45 minutes to Dalton to get it done and it was my day off.
Normally, a LINE-X job for a 6.5 ft under the rails will take 2.5 to 3.0 hours. But, circumstances can shorten or lengthen that time. If yours is the only truck and everyone jumps in, 1.5 to 2.0 hours is possible. If the shop is loaded with trucks, 3.0 to 4.0 hours is possible.

I didn't have a problem waiting 4 hours and 15 minutes for it. They did an awesome job and also their waiting room had a comfy Italian leather couch and 3 very, very large flat screen HDTVs that played hunting a fishing shows in HD the whole time I was there. Everybody was super nice and I was comfortable, hell all I would have been doing at home on my Tuesday off would have been sitting on the couch watching TV.
