BAK BakFlip Tonneau Cover

Hi,

Am looking at getting this and am wondering if anyone has any experience with it. I like the fact that it folds up. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: bak-flip

Hi
I bought the bak-flip
The glue that holds the rubber seal at the cab end is letting go.
The cover is one month old!
The dealer that sold it to me, asked if I would try their new modle out
bak-flip2.
I get it at the end of Aug.
Also I don't like the frame rails on the inside of the box,
I am worried that I will damage them, loading and unloadeing stuff.
they are thin alum. L shape pecies.
On the pllus side
It dosn't leak (rain stroms up northern B.C.)
Easy to fold up and down
You can also have a carrgo rack system at the same time.

They supposedly have a second generation model coming out. If you order directly from manufacturer you'll get the 2nd generation. Should be an improvement on what was already a good product.

The G2 (Generation 2) looks like to be a HUGE improvement. I'd like to hear some feedback once they get out there.

truckgasm,

Are those older pictures? If so, how old? I'm really the function of these covers and would like to get one before football season.

It would nice to be able to cover my tailgating supplies while I'm in the game.

The_Beast,

Have you seen any of the newer ones? How improved are they? How "in need" of improving was the first generation tops?

Thanks in advance guys

I haven't seen any of the Gen 2's yet but was talking to one of the owner's a few weeks back and they were really excited about it and was talking about how all the old problems were fixed and there would be no more problems such as these.

I just ordered a Gen 2 model. After I read this post last night I called the guy and asked specifically if it was a Gen 2 and he said yes. They started shippping the Gen 2's at the end of July.

I will update this with some pix when I get it on.

Yep!!

I've been looking for an awesome cover that will still allow me to utilize my truck box, and get into the back of my Screw when I launch my Bassboat...THIS is the answer...very nice and the G2 looks to be built very well. I'll be getting one when I return from Iraq!!!!

I'll cut and paste a comment from another forum regarding the new G2. Just to be fair, another posted and said that the rods did not bother him.

I am not very pleased with the new design. The original design allowed you to open the cover completely while standing on the ground, on one side of the truck. This new design requires me to get in the bed to secure the rods. You might be able to do it from the ground if you are very tall, but you still have to go to both sides, unscrew the wheel, push the cover back against the cab (to remove the 'spring'), flip the prop up, tighten the wheel back. Twice. This has removed a LOT of the convenience for me. I don't know why BAK didn't just use a locking prop bar - like you see on fold out tables.

I have a fold-a-cover

I've had covers in many styles on various trucks through the years. I have a fold a cover that was on my 02 SuperCrew when I bought it. I love it - the only thing that I have to watch out for is that it gets really hot in the summer. I like that I can access the front or rear of my bed.

I actually sell more Fold-A-Covers than I do the BakFlips (say that as I put 2 Bak's on this week and haven't done a Fold in a month). But as far as overall between the 2 there isn't much difference, most people like the fact that the Bak folds all the way up to give you a full bed opening.
