I know I want a spray-in bedliner for my truck because I loved it in my last truck but now there are a bunch of different name brands and price seems to vary. $250-$500
I just want a black spray in liner.
Is there a name brand to stay away from?
Why is one brand better than another brand?
The brands I have seen are Permatech , Line-x , Rhyno.
My understanding is that the installer and the prep work is the key.
A couple of your questions are pretty objective and probably have no right or wrong answers.
Is there a brand to stay away from? When I got mine (Line-X) I wanted something with a good warranty and company with a proven track record. Line-X has both.
Why is one brand better than another? There have been several debates on this topic in this forum in the past. Search "Line-X vs Rhino" and I'm sure you'll come up with something. For me it came down to what I liked better. I liked the clean look and feel of the Line-X. It seemed more durable.
There are a lot of different brands out there, I considered Xtreme liners. It is very similar to Line-X and less expensive, by about $100. I was concerned about the warranty. There was only one shop that sold it and if they went out of business I would have been SOL. Line-X can be repaired anywhere.
You mentioned that you had a spray in liner in your last truck that you were happy with. If you had a good experience with it you may want to consider sticking with it.

Shopping for a spray-in can be difficult. Chemical composition of the product varies from company to company. Generally speaking, there are three types of spray-ins: 100% polyurethane (most common; Rhino, Toff), 100% polyurea (least common; Combat, Xtreme Liner), blend of polyurethane and polyurea (LINE-X, Viper). The three types exhibit different tear strengths, tensile strengths, temperature tolerance, abrasion resistance, etc. My personal opinion is that the bedliners that are a blend tend to be the better bedliners because both polyurea and polyurethane give the liner desireable properties. Discussion of the chemical composition can go a further. Such as there are one-part polyurethanes (also called "solvent based") and two-part polyurethanes. I'll stop here unless you want to hear more. The best thing to do is to go see and feel the products, then consider the warranty and then pick the one that's right for you.
Well, I hope I made the right decision in the new '05 that I bought and will pick up on 6-3! I bought the spray-in liner from the dealership. I do not know what brand spray-in liner it is but the "after market" guy at the dealership just told me it had a "life time" warranty! Did I make a mistake by not knowing the spray in manufacturer?
Kinda like paint jobs, I think one of the biggest things to look for when shopping for spray in bedliners is the installer. Ask around, what's his rep around town, how's his shop look like, how do his installations look like, will he stand behind the product, etc.
I settled on a Permatech liner because, 1, it came at a good price and 2, word of mouth around town spoke very highly of the installer.

My last liner was applied great but faded over the years. It was definately tough stuff but I didn't care for the look after it faded. I spent $350 in 1999 for it.

So my advice would be to go back to the same installer and use the same product that made that guy type that.
My last liner ... faded over the years...I didn't care for the look after it faded...

So, my advice would definitely be to give a different product a try.
Line-X comes in any color...I had my installed today. 3 times a year to keep the shine, they say to spray something like Armor-all on it lightly and wipe off with a lint free towel and it will hold it's shine. To clean it you can use Simply-Green cleaner and a nylon brush will look like new again. My dealer puts UV protection over it when it is dry to hold the color in. Looks great and go their Line-X wbsite and get a $20.00 coupon off.
Picked up my new '05 F150 today. When I bought the truck a few days ago I wanted a spray in liner but knew nothing about the brands or anything. The aftermarket guy at the dealer said it would be $350 so I took it. Found out today it was a Toff liner. Hope that is a good one. Does anybody out there have a Toff liner?
Oh and by the way I also learned today that the dealer also had Line-X but it was $500.
Yea, I know all about Toff, which mainly operates in Texas. Toff has downsized in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Myself and two other LINE-X dealers hired their outside salesperson. I sorta have the inside scoop on Toff. Toff, which is owned by a company called Artlux, is having some financial problems. That's all I should say.
As far a product, Toff is a 100% polyurethane liner just like Rhino. LINE-X is a blend of polyurethane and polyurea.
