Question Pace Edwards Roll-Top Cover

Well, I took the plunge and bought a Pace-Edwards Roll Top cover for my 2003 SuperCrew. Price was $765 total which I thought was a decent price. Now my ten thumbs and I need some advice on installation.

The installation guide is OK, but leaves something to be desired. First of all, it mentions increasing the size of the drain holes in the front of the truck bed for two drain tubes. Well, my SCrew doesn't have drain holes, but rather allows water to drain out between the bed floor and the bed wall adjacent to the cab. So the questions arise:

1. Do you believe it is necessary to drill drain holes at all, or just locate the drail tubes against the bed wall on each side of the bed so that collected water drains out the way the bed was designed to drain?

2. If any of you have a similar vehicle, have you done this and where did you locate the holes?

I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions, but I wanted to start out on the right foot by not punching holes in my truck if I did not need to...

Thanks,

Dave...

I have a roll top on a Ranger. The Ranger bed has two plugged holes in the front vertical portion of the bed. I just slit the rubber plug & ran the tube through it. I would advise gluing the tubing adapters that go into the botton of the box. It makes it so much easier when pushing the tubing on.

You can drill you holes in the rubber boots near the bottom of the bulkhead and bend the drain tubes to got thru the wall instead of drilling a hole in the bed of the truck. Actually, the very best thing would be to get return the Pace Edwards cover and for a few mir bucks get a descent cover form retrax. Had a Pace on my wifes truck and it was a miserable experience. They were in chapter 11 at the time and I could not get descent service. Got a retrax from truck gadgets.com for 850.00 and i love it. They also made me a great deal on an electric tailgate lock and an electric lock for my cover. Wife also loves it because she can open the bed up half way without having to crawl up into the bed.

Newt... Thanks for the tubing adapter advice. I've made a note in my instructions.

Louistruckster... I think I'll work with the P-E, but appreciate the advice on the rubber boots. I assume you mean the vertical "race-track" shaped objects on the bed wall which is adjacent to the cab. Mine have been line-x'ed over, but I assume I can drill through them without a problem. Do they lead to the outside of the bed? Is there anything I need to watch out for when drilling (wiring, other obstructions)?

Thanks...

Dave...

Yes, you can drill thru the line x liner. Just be careful when you drill so you do not go thru thru the bulkhead into the back of the cab. Drill as low as you can go to minimize the bend in the plastic drain tube. Just a note, be sure to open the cover about an inch or so before you slam the tailgate shut as it will ultimately damage the top if you keep hitting the seal at the end of the top.
