Bed Mat or Liner?

I am debating on a Line-X spay in or just a regular bed mat...I dont do any hauling except the occasional load and my dogs...will the texture of the Line-X be rough on the feet of my dogs when I take them places? Since I dont haul anything, would it be better for me to save $350 and just get a regualr bed mat? Just curious...I have had the misfortune of driving a car the past dozen years and this is my first full size truck.

Todd, a bedmat will probably do you just fine, however, they do tend to slip around, and WILL scratch the paint in your bed. I personally prefer Herculiner over Line-X for durability and above all PRICE! You can do your bed for under $100 if it's not an 8' bed. The rubber granules in the Herculiner provide very good "traction" for loads, and they would not hurt your dog's feet either. I'm sure Line-X wouldn't hurt their feet either, but, if you're wanting to save some $$$, try the Herculiner. Once you prep the bed, it just rolls on. I've done six trucks with it and love it. Good luck Timberdoodles

The LINE-X dealer can vary the texture to rather smooth to very rough. Here are some pics of light texture LINE-X. The texture is sort of like an orange peel and definately not rough on the feet.

By nature of the product, Herculiner is not as durable as LINE-X. Herculiner is a solvent based polyurethane. That is, the poly is suspended in a solvent. A catalyst is added, such as a liquid chemical or just air, which removes the solvent and leaves just the poly. LINE-X is a two part polyurethane with polyurea. A polyol resin is mixed with isocyanate (a hardener) which renders the poly. The polyurea raises the temp tolerance, makes it harder, makes it more dense, raises the tear strength. I'm not knocking Herculiner, it's just a different product and not even in the same league as LINE-X. LINE-X offers a nationwide lifetime warranty. You get what you pay for.

I bought a bedmat when I first bought my truck and about two years later after putting some extra scratches around the bed, I decided to get a Line-x liner.

I really like the Line-x, and I still have the bedmat sitting on top of the Line-x liner. If I were to do it over again, I would probably do the same thing. In fact, I just bought my dad a bedmat for his new truck this year for Christmas.

I'd go with a drop-in if its a new truck. Less money, better (much) looking after a couple of years. and...

1. Won't scratch or peel.

2. Don't have to take sandpaper to the bed

3. Some (not all) of the spray-ins look bad after a few years. A co-worker has a Line-x and it looks "scaled" or, I'm not sure how to describe it maybe "sun bleached" is a better term to use.

Anyway, why pay hundreds for what is essentially undercoating when you can get the real deal?

A neighbor had a F150 with a bed liner in for 4 years and traded-in the truck. He took the liner out and installed it in the new truck. The old truck's (trade-in) bed was almost "immaculate".

Just my opinion - I'm sold on the Ford OEM liner - $250 out the door at the dealer.
