The floor is sewn to the tailgate piece. It eliminates the tailgate gap nicely.
This is the back of the tailgate piece. The backing of the rug isn't quite foam rubber and not quite sponge either. It is NOT jute carpet backing or household carpet backing; it's a different sort of plastic-like material. I don't know how to explain it other than it works. All of the gaps on the floor of the bed are filled in by 'counter-molded' sponge backing. It's unbelievably comfortable.
I personally believe spray-ins are a bad idea. Drop ins are too risky. This is the perfect go between. I couldn't be happier.
Installed my bedrug this summer and while I havent been hauling mulch, have been running firewood back home in it lately and its holding up. I use the pressure washer at the carwash and the stuff just flies out the back over the tailgate. Carpet is holding up nicely.
How much do these go for and how hard are they to install? Looks like there shouldn't be much of a problem. These are made for a varieties of weather? I do not plan on a cap or lid. They look really nice.
Shop around when it comes to a Bedrug. I found mine on eBay this summer for $199 + $36 in shipping, but a guy was selling out his inventory up in Tennessee, closing shop. I usually see prices around 250 or so, sometimes a bit higher, some a bit lower.
The install was a lot easier than I had thought, took me and a buddy 30 minutes. Most of the pieces are zipped together, so you really just apply "2" pieces (the sides and bottom of bed). It helps if one guy is in the bed laying the bedrug to the tape while another buddy stands outside the truck keeping the bedrug from touching the tape until you've aligned it perfect (keeping it over your head then lowering it down as you work towards the back of your truck).
Its not totally waterproof, so water goes thru it and drains as if you didnt have a bedliner back there. Not as quickly as no bed, mind you. The material its made of is marine-grade carpet - think of a bass boat that has carpet. It doesnt mildew and dries quickly. I usually have my tonneau cover on, but even on those days I didnt, never had any problems with it draining / drying quickly. And we get a lot of rain down here in FL.
