Ls II or Leer 700 series????

I have been looking to getting a lid for my truck and I think I have narrowed it down between the Ls II ot the Leer 700 series. does any one here have any experience with these two lids, good or bad. I have heard the leer is a little lighter is it? which one is easier to take on and off. are they both pretty watter tight and sturdy enough to handle weight on top ect? any info would be helpful thanx

I'll have to admit, my decision was based on availabilty/price - I just purchased a used 2000 F150 SuperCab FlareSide. I found a truck accessories place in the Grand Rapids area that carries used/seconds as well as new. I found a Leer lid that had a scratch or two, but was never installed . Total installed price=$400!!!

As the guy was installing it, I told him I had heard the Leer's were heavier than the ARS lids and he said that was true, but the ARS lids can warp while the Leer lids have a metal plate/frame inside the fiberglass to reduce warpage (which would explain the extra weight).

I also do not know which model Leer I have, but it is about 3 years old according to the serial number. It will be a heavy bear to get off, but looks to be straightforward as I paid very close attention when the guy was installing it.

My only complaint is that Ford has factory bed rails that the lid sits on - I would like it better if the rails were not there, but havn't had the truck long enough to investigate taking them off (which would also mean taking off the lid and I think I'll wait for when I have to do that for real - i.e. hauling purposes)!

i just bought the ls11. it covers the rails so they are not visable. it is water tight and has a lifetime structure warrenty. i think its the best looking lid on the market, personally.

Hi Jason,

When I was shopping for a lid, the ARE and Leer were about $50 from each other in price.
I think they are both good lids, and I only went with ARE because I liked the style of it better.

If you can get a better price on the Leer, I don't think you can go wrong either way you go.

I went with the LEER 700 and it's awesome - even they're warranty. I have the lid for over a year and the latches broke on me. I guess normal wear and tear. But since the warranty was only for a year, they weren't gonna cover it. They asked that i just pay for shipping and they would change the entire rail system - so i said okay. well the dealer calls me that my lid is ready and when i show up, i see it's a NEW lid!!! that was cool.

The ARE LSII is a great product. 100% waterproof, very sturdy and easy to remove and re-install (except for the sheer weight of the unit).

It wraps completely over the top of the bed and has adjustable "bump stops" for setting the proper height and closing space.

Overall, a great product IMHO. I personally prefer it's looks over the Leer. I like the Leer, except for the latch and "straight chopped" look of the tailgate area. The ARE is symetrical all around, but hey, get what YOU like !!

I don't know which ARE lid you were looking at, but I can tell you that the LSII unit I have is very heavy and could not possibly "warp". The rounded edge design, coupled with the raised center section, combine to make the lid extremely rigid and durable. I have sat on mine to get to the rear window and I weigh 220 lbs.
