Factory, it's designed for the truck!

it seems like the aftermarket ones are more efficient since they dont loose space on the curve. they have a 90 degree curve and the ford one makes several bends loosing tailgate space when in use. thought that might look better to

Not sure, but I believce the one from the factory is made by an aftermarket company and can be bought directly from them.

The factory one is made by Westin, with different mounting holes from the aftermarket. Aftermarket: drill new ones vs. OEM uses the ones already there. Is it worth drilling new holes for $100 less? Or, maybe pick up a used on from another member. Best price I found for the OEM one was $290.

The factory extenders are made of stainless steel tubing, but the aftermarket ones are only made of aluminum.

Make one!

I made mine. I don't use it very often but it has been helpful a few times. I don't keep it in the truck. $30 worth of PVC pipe. Quick assembly and great use. Is it pretty? No. But it works great. No drilling either.

I couldn't bring myself to spend the 100's of dollars for something that I would seldom use.
