bedrug install question?

Guys,

Got my bedrug this weekend.. very excited about getting it in place.

I test fit the whole thing, and I think it looks great.

Wanted to find out a few things before I go about putting it in permanently, however.

Does the upper lip of the bedrug along the bed side wall go below the bed cap, or is there a way to mount it underneath (between bedcap/bed)?

Any suggestions for mounting, tie downs, etc?

Thanks
Dan

Yeah, the upper edge goes under the bed caps. Remove the tie downs & reinstall on top the bedrug for a better finish. I really like mine & took only about a 1/2 hour to install. Good luck with yours!

I didn't put mine under the rails, I don't think it's possible.
As for the tie downs, I removed the tie downs and put the screws back in place, put the bed rug in place where it will wind up being, then feel for the screws and cut a small X where the screws are, remove screws and and reinstall tie downsafter the rug is in. I did notice it was a tight fit across the bed next to the cab, I used a couple of boards and stretched the rug to reach across the bed. Good luck, and enjoy.

Tailgator,

Any suggestions on how to get that lip under the bedcaps?

I know that I can pull them out just a little.. should I just try and lift it a little, and slide the rug underneath, just enough to catch the lip of the bedrug?

Thanks
Dan

Dan-
I think you might have missunderstood what I meant by "under" the bed caps. The bedrug won't go between the bed cap & the bed. What I meant is that it goes under the top of the bedside. Some of the top edge of the bedrug is exposed. Thats why it has a finished edge on it. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Good luck on your installation!

I just did my install and I was able to tuck just certain parts between the bed and bedrail cover. The rear corners and part of the side.

I agree..

after I installed.. I was not able to tuck all of the edges under the bedrail/caps...

So it's part of the way in, and part out.. doesn't look TOO bad...

Dan

Oh yeah.. has anybody noticed any ruffles in the floor section.

The floor section has a "bulge" about mid way.. it's been really really hot, and I'm wondering if it's allowed it to stretch a little.

There are only 2 long strips of velcro down the sides and not really any in middle.

I've got my bedrug in SuperCrew...

Does anybody else who has bedrug, cover the bed extender mount holes?

Any quick fixes? I actually don't use the bed extender that much, but was thinking, I might just un-velcro the area where the bed extender goes...when I need it

Dan

Dan, you are supposed to trim the holes with a razor to put the bed extender in. I guess you could always peel back the part that covers the holes though.

A pretty easy install after i got the tiedowns out. I had one screw seized in and had a h*ll of a time getting it out, the torx head stripped, not much room for vise-grips. It is also best to do the install when the bed is warm so the velcro adhesive will bond better.

Put mine in last week and it was a breeze also. Luckily I already had the tie downs removed in preperation for the install a week earlier. I had a hard time getting one screw from the front out but was able to work it out without damage. Mine does fit under the bed cap except for the very front and very rear but its made to do that from what I hear and looks pretty good regardless. I`m real happy with it and wish I had gotten it earlier. The same place I purchased my ARE cover installs these and gave me some good tips to keep the wrinkles and bulges out when installing it . Went back with a ice pick and probed for the holes(felt by hand for the big middle hole first) for tie downs and made a little cut with an exacto knife and screwed them back in.

Did you have a hard time with the screws after soaking them with like WD-40 or did you not soak them at all?

I didnt soak them at all to start with. The first 7 came out with no problem at all. The last one was the one I had trouble with as the screws stick out in the open on the other side of the bed. The screw rusted a tad and had dirt about 1/2 way down the threads and made it hard to get out. I put a little rust penetrator on it and worked it back in and then out and it came free.

Heres pictures of the parts sticking out I was talking about on mine. It may not be the same on the others like supercrew models. The front isnt actually sticking out but has a small gap I figure I can readjust it a little and remove that. The same on the rear and with a little adjustment upwards I should be able to hide most of the finished edge there too. Just wish I had ordered the ARE Z series cap with the darker carpet now.
