Tonneau Cover

I recently purchased an A.R.E. LSII tonneau cover for my 2000 F150 XLT, ext cab, short bed. I have a pair of tubular bed rails that I've had on the truck, that I would like to mount on the tonneau. The combined weight of the rails is 15.9 Lbs. I've been told that the extra weight of the rails would wear out the support struts prematurly. Also leaking problems around the bolt holes. Any helpful hints or advice will be appreciated.

i see no problem

1) I seen my share of tonneaus with tube rails mounted... even considered it myself. Its been done many times.

2) The extra weight shouldnt be a problem. They are same struts that are put on long bed covers which probably weigh 15 lbs more than a short bed tonneau

3) when installing, clear silicone sealant (like the Mono stuff in the tube) all around the installation, top and bottom and there should be no leakage at all.

Hope this helps.
