Tonneau Cover Question

I'm on the market for a Tonneau Cover. I've been looking at the Access Tonneau Covers. Does anyone own one or have seen one on a Ford? Also, I have a bedliner on my truck. Will that affect the installation or use of the tonneau cover? Should I get a hard or soft tonneau cover?

tonneau cover

I am also in the market for a tonneau cover, some of the things I considered where first off price, hard covers have to be painted to match and cost more also, and the other thing is if you have something high you want to put in the box you have to take hard covers right off the truck were the soft cover can be rolled up. Needless to say I haven't picked one out either yet....lol

another ?

Does the bedliner going over the outside rail of the bed make a difference in choosing a bed cover, like yours shows on your picture? That is how my bed liner is. Will this be a problem in installing a bed cover?

I had a Ranger that I put a soft tonneau cover on and it too had a plastic liner. All I had to do was cut some small holes so the clamps that holds down the bars can get under the inside edge of the bed. (Mine had 6 clamps). Hope that makes sense. I have a F150 now and another soft cover. I like this one much better. The one on the Ranger was a snap on cover and I had a hard time in the winter taking it on and off. This one, has a plastic edge that folds into the side bars and is a lot easier to handle. I do not know the brand because it was on when I purchased the truck, but I could post some pictures if youd like.

I purchased an Extang Tuff Tonno III last month and it has been flawless. It does not use snaps, but instead has the lips in the rails like etersup's. If your bedliner is over the side, you might have to cut the holes for the clamps, other than that it is easy and straightforward.

This url will take you to where I got mine.
I like the easy roll up and store ability and the cost advantage over the hard tops.
Right after I installed it, I took a 1500 mile road trip and it was great being able to use the bed like a trunk and still carry oversize cargo when necessary.

I understand that you have to take a hard cover off to put big stuff in. But the fact that it locks and i can keep a tool box and other things in the bed with a hard tonneau cover is why i am getting one like that. As far as looks for the hard tonneau cover, I think that A.R.E make the best looking for the fords. I priced them for my 03 stx short bed they are about 745 with tax in Albany NY.

access tonneau cover

I have an access tonneau cover and love it. It rolls up in seconds plus you can lock it. If you go to www.realtruck.com you can check it out their.

Access Cover

So it DOES lock and if you lock your tailgate you have a big trunk as your bed? That's what I'm looking for. Does it keep water and weather out of your bed completely or just some or what? I need to know this stuff. Thanks a bunch for the reply.

The info at www.realtruck.com was amazing. They had really detailed instructions for that soft cover that you could see before you actually buy it, which really helps with the purchase decision.

I have a question for any of those who have soft tops. If you used a C-Clamp to hold the cover rails against the bed, did you put anything between the Clamp and where it touches the lip of the bed so that the clamp wouldn't touch the truck directly? Can you tighten them too tight?

It can be cut but, i think that if someone wanted to get into your truck even with a hard cover they will find a way.
