For the 07's the eighth posistion is the engine identifier, and are as follows- 4 indicates a 4.6 2v, 5 gets you a standard 5.4, and V gets you a Flex fuel 5.4. I'm guessing this applies to 04-08's maybe 9's and 10's also.

Just throwing my 2 cents in the mix.

My truck is an 2003 XLT Sport SCAB Flareside and the interior trim code is TT, which is not listed above, I will assume that is because it is a Sport and from what I have found all Sports have a cloth interior that is specific to them.

I also found the radio codes:

Radio Codes
• 5 — Electronic, Premium AM/FM stereo cassette
• 8 — Electronic, Premium AM/FM stereo cassette
• 7 — AM/FM stereo with clock
• 9 — AM/FM stereo cassette with clock
• K — AM/FM stereo cassette with CD player
• Y — Delete standard radio with clock
• G — Delete radio chassis only, AM/FM stereo, all other components installed (F-Series, Ranger, Econoline)

I am still looking for the Brake Code "B" and my interior trim code "TT".

The truck has High back bucket seats (Captain's) without armrests but with integrated seat restraints and a wide top center console. I have been to the salvage yard many times and I have yet to see a truck with the same fabric on the seats as are on mine.

Here is another one, the document is 1261 pages long and is for 2004 models but includes the 04 Heritage so that information may apply to 99-03's, I checked it against my 03 and it looks to be a match.

On my truck's VIN of 1FTPX14524NA58268, position #8 it has a number 5!? Either I'm missing something, or there's no engine code listed for a 5 on the VIN's #8 character? Hmm..maybe my truck doesn't have an engine? Help?

"5" indicates it as a 5.4l 3v Motor. My 05 SC has the same thing.

Thank you for the reply & confirmation. Why is it I cannot find the info to decipher the character of '5' in the #8 position of the VIN?

What did you use as reference/documentation?

Thanks again!

i found out through this tread i believe. You can always open up your hood and look, or use the vin decoder on the top of the page 8th always denotes engine throughout the industry. I worked for Lansing Grand River assembly plant for 7 years.
