"HOW TO" install Double Din unit in 2003 F150
#46
Has anyone figured out how to change the background image? I know how to change it to other factory back grounds, but it shows an icon that looks like you can get your own images off a camera, but its always greyed out. I haven't been able to figure out how to get another image as the background. Can it be done.

Ok folks.... I have been hooked on this thread for soooooo long I had it bookmarked! Now, just now, I purchased a Kenwood DDX512 with XM module from Ebay for 175.00 (nicely used). Also ordered the Metra 95-5818 kit ( I hope it's the right one) and a Boyo rear view camera.
Now all I need is to have all this stuff delivered and time for the install

Loved your write up. I had the same unit installed in my 03 Scab, but without the skill set had to have a professional do it. I have to have my truck in park with the emergency brake on to watch movies. I had a Nav R3 water proof back-up camera installed in my tailgate and wired into the system. Excellent! much nicer and more secure than the license plate models I looked at, and it has IR lights for great night view.

Ok. I see this is now an old post but great work and the relay worked like a charm on mine. I just finished soldering and heat shrinking the wiring harness. And had a test run. Watched a little Thor in the truck last night. Kinda cool.
My question to someone or everyone is...
Why r we grounding?. If all we did was remove the factory stereo that should have been grounded ( we hope.) And I did not un-ground it or remove the factory ground, then shouldn't the moment I plug the stereo in with the black wire labeled ground tied into the black wire on the truck wiring harness that the new stereo is now ground????
I should finish mine today. Any help on this before I wrap this up would be great.
Thanks
John

Hi John, welcome!
If your head unit is functioning and doing all the things it is supposed to do, then yes, it has to be grounded already.
However, if you have a loose ground wire just hanging off of it, you might as well connect it to something (a metal frame member). Extra grounds don't hurt.
It's also possible I don't understand your question.
