          Ignition cool bracket

So I have a couple of questions I'm in the process of doing the swap using 5.4 f-150 motor and it's going into my 1997 ford expedition. My questions are does anyone have a pic of how they modified their ignition cool bracket? Also which cam positioning sensor and crank positioning sensor should I use the one from my 4.6 or the one from the 5.4?

Hey, I'm new to the forum. I have been searching online for some help with a motor swap I am performing. This thread is full on great info and I hope you guys can help me out with a few questions.

I recently took on a project for a friend. He brought me his 98' f150 extended cab truck that originally had a 4.6L with the coil pack type ignition. The truck had another shop install a 99+ 5.4 lightning motor and 4r100 transmission but was not finished or wired up.

Here are a few facts and questions i have:

The truck has the original pcm & fuse box harness

They used the factory Lightning engine harness and it appears to have the factory lightning transmission harness also.

I have a factory lightning under hood fuse box and harness.

What i ran into is the ford lightning engine harness has two plugs that go into the pcm harness. The original 4.6 only allows the one 42 pin plug and not the 16 pin.

The ford lightning fuse box and pcm harness doesn't plug into the fuel pump harness beneath the cruise control module and i do not have the lightning fuel pump harness or ABS system

I am completely stumped and some advice on what i need to get this thing running with the stock lightning engine and 4r100 trans

          5.4 to 4.6

I really hope I find the answer to my question. I have a 1997 Ford F150 XLT supercab and my heads are cooked. I am helping my mechanic look for a new motor and he says I have to find the exact year down to the MONTH (July) in order for another 5.4 to fit. My question is: Can I downsize to a 4.6L motor? Thank you.

From what i have learned you should be able to with no problem. Just extend a few of the wires and retune pcm

I have the same truck (1997 F150 XLT supercab) and converted mine from a 4.6 to 5.4. Going backwards wouldn't be that hard but there are parts you need to find.

I put a 1999 5.4 in mine because of the PI heads. Not sure why your mechanic is saying you have to have the same year and month. Plenty of people have put in different years and sizes in.

coils not firing 4.6-5.4 swapped E-VANS

Hello, I have a problem after a swap and need help! To start I have two 1998 E series vans (1)E-150 conversion 4.6L the other (2)E-250 Cargo Quigley 4x4 5.4L. I swapped bodies from the E-150 on to the E-250 4X4 frame and original drive train, everything plugged in like it should work. I started it up and it ran rough. I then swapped the ECM from the 5.4 still rough. I had it scoped and it seems the back 4 COP's are not firing. I changed plugs boots and new Excel Coils. Same result?? I am using the 5.4l wire harness that was on the engine but the 4.6l harness the was in the body. Am I missing a ground or something? I did just read that a weak battery will cause issues and I know it barely cranks it over to fire up but does start it.
I know this is a F-150 Forum but I need hep here!

Question question on doing a swap from 4.6 to 5.4

My fiancee has a 2003 f150 he wants to swap 4.6 with 5.4 and has trans 4R70W. would it be a direct swap or would he need more than just the engine?

About to start the swap on my '02 F150. Swapping the 4.6L for an '02 5.4L from an Expedition. From everything I have read, this should be a pretty easy swap. I have ordered the new torque converter and hope the exhaust manifolds will match up, or be close enough to not have to do anything too crazy.

Anyone have any more detail on what they experienced with a similar swap as far as the exhaust is concerned?

Hey man, excellent thread! I followed it really closely except I have one quick question. I have done the swap in my '03 with another '03 5.4L. My question is this however, I have the old engine computer from the donor truck (2003 F-150 2WD), can I run the donor engine computer with out mods, as in PATS and the 4WD system in my truck?

Thanks for any help you guys can offer!

I have read through all of the notes that I can find on swapping a 4.6L to a 5.4L and have not come across someone that has use the newer NVH block 5.4L engine. I am getting ready to swap the 4.6L in my 2001 F150 4X4 for a 5.4L for all of the obvious reasons. What I need to know is if the post 1/20/2002 5.4L which is "noise, vibration and harshness" (NVH) block has any mounting problems when used in the 2001 chassis. I would mainly be concerned with accessory mounting and motor mounting. I suspect that it will couple up with the 4R70W transsmission just fine as long as I change the torque convertor. An input will be greatly appreciated
