Lightbulb exhaust noise

I hear a pinging noise from underneath my F150 after disengaging the engine. Obviously heat related, but wondering if this indicates an exhaust problem.

thanks.

Smile Pinging noise

Hey Junkman,

The noise you are hearing is probably the sound of the cats starting to cool down. This is a very common sound on emission controlled vehicles. The cats are basically a metal can with a honeycombed ceramic insert. The ceramic honeycomb gets extremely hot and burns off any unused fuel vapor that make it through the engine. When you shut the engine off the ceramic insert starts to contract slightly as it cools making those pinging type of sound you are refering to. My SCrew does this also. Totally normal. Hope this helps.

Hey Junkman,

Have that checked, mine turned out to be broken pieces of cat in my cat convertor. Last week i had a Flowmaster 40 delta flow put on, the tech was pushing my cat and verified that pieces of the cat were moving around in there. Called the dealer and he said it would be covered.
