FREE MOD!!!Color Matched Ford Emblems

I've been wanting to get a set of black emblems for my truck for a while now. but when i seen some of the prices for a little emblem, i said no way, its not worth it. But then on a ford ranger site i saw a how-to on changing the color of your emblems, and i decided to try it on an older spare emblem i had. I just looked at the truck's emblems quickly, and it looks like it can work on the current f150 ford emblems too too. Not 100% sure, but i'm going to buy an extra emblem from the dealer to give that a try next, but it should work. Anyway, the instructions on that site were pretty hairy near the end, so i made up my own. There are a couple defects on the emblem, but they were there before i started. The actual changing of the color went perfect. waaay better than i expected. So here's the pics. Let me know what you guys think....

oh and sorry if this has already been posted here. I've never seen it yet, so thats why i'm sharing it with you guys

Post if anybody is gonna do this. I'm gonna buy a new set of emblems for my truck, just cuz i don't want to permantly change anything that came on it. And o yeah, a hair dryer would help getting the emblem apart with less chance of damaging something. So what do you guys think? good mod?

Very good info.I have seen directions posted, but not pictures.
One bit of advice for taking the emblems off-dental floss-Run it across the back to help break the glue seal.

seeing how tidious this job was when I tried it 5 minutes ago... if I were eager to get a different color badge I'd pay the guy selling them online the $50 bux he wants and put it on my car to enjoy...

its not as easy to do as the pictures show, although its very much doable! Use a lot of caution when trying this, be sure not to chip the plastic piece while prying it off, be sure the glue holding the plastic piece in place doesn't take with it the chrome from the plastic piece where "Ford" is written, as you pry it off, and again be sure not to cut yourself because this is a job for a very sharp knife!

good luck

yes, just becareful when attempting to do this. i'm still not 100% sure it can be done to the new truck emblems. But like russ said, if you take your time, it should be doable, but it is alot of work, gotta go slow, and sand alot. But for those of us who can't afford to drop 50 bucks plus shipping for a new emblem (or 100 bucks for both ), as opposed to 2 bucks for a can of spray paint, its a great mod, and worth it IMO.

but before you go hacking away, read this other thread where i posted, because i dont' fell like typing it again. i'll be getting another ford truck emblem from teh dealer next time i'm out there to test it, and i'll post results. In the mean time, mod at your own risk
please post results if you try it!

, i usually do carry it w/ me. Its a 4" blade jaguar pocket knife that i got at an auto show as a door prize. Comes in handy when i'm workin on teh truck and stuff. And the occasional hit and run j/k.

I have a question.

Why can't I just leave the emblem on the truck and take off the cover? It does not matter where the base is .
Or is it just easier to take it off the truck?

Just wondering if I can skip a step.
