Hi guys,

I have an 06 4x4 extended cab, vermillion red, 2"lift and 33" BFG's, that now has a fairly large dint and footprint in the hood. I had an insurance quote done at $1500 damage, but they want to pull the dint and repaint. I am thinking about trying to get a body shop to order an aftermarket hood and just install that for me. So my question is what do I have to know about aftermarket hoods before I buy? From what I have read so far it looks like I should stick with a steel hood for ease of installation, as I do not want to pay a bunch extra to get the hood, just thought I might as well if the insurance will cover it. So far I like the Reflexxion Non-cobra style, so if there are any tips to add they would definately be appreciated. I have read some things about windshield washer nozzles being relocated, and hood struts not being strong enough for this hood. I also currently have a bug deflector on and have not seen any pictures of this hood with a bug deflector, or should I just scrap it anyway? So should I continue to look into the hood, or just say screw it and let them fix my stocker? Thanks in advance.

Unless you just are looking for an excuse to purchase a new hood I might suggest having a Paintless Dent Repair shop take a look at it first.

I should have mentioned that I have a package policy on the truck so my deductable is only $200 and my bug deflector that also got damaged is almost worth that much alone. I also did have a paintless repair guy look at it and he figured he might get it out, but there would be a good chance that it wouldn't be perfect. Any advice on the hood?

 

My truck was recently in a bad hail storm. I must have had 50+ golf ball sized dents.
It's perfect today and you can not find a single one!!!

Shop around and ASK questions...you should be able to find an excellent PDR guy where you are.

 

I have a Reflexxion hood on my '02, it is heavy and I tried to find new struts to work, but never came up with any. I had my body guy when shooting the hood, do the cut out's for the washer nozzles. And I forgot to mention, this hood was on my '98 before I traded it in for the '02 in '03.

Thanks for the reply about the hood. Is it too heavy for the stock struts to hold it up at all? I also realized that the washer nozzles are not in the hood on the 04-08 body style.

 

Stock struts on mine.
