Best DIY window tint?

Has anyone had good luck with any specific brand DIY window tint film?

I want to tint my front windows, will probably do something in the neighborhood of 20-30%.
Any suggestions?

Thanks

getting them professionally done is not that expensive if you want more quality...

Unless of course you are just in it for the adventure in which I imagine somebody will be able to chime in with some experience.

I don't think I have the patience or steady hand to try to tint myself. but I'd love to see pics when you are done!!!

why not just get them professionaly done? Everywhere around here charges 45 bucks for 2 windows and comes with a lifetime warranty on the tint

Northern Tint Co. is hands down the best pre-cut films out there. I taught myself to tint and mastered at it, I ordered their 20% all around kit for my truck and it is great film. Did it all myself and it still looks great 2yrs later. They also offer various tools, further law information, and tech instructional video.

My thread. Photos throughout the first three pages.

And a photo from early May 2010. Again, this is 20% film all around, no moonroof or windshield tint.

If you have never done this before, it takes patients, yet god timing. Once you unpeel the clear backing from the film, your tint must be applied. The window needs to be drenched wetter than a wet sponge too with tint adhesion solution. And their kits are computer cut for 100% accuracy on line matching, and this takes about 2 to 3 weeks to receive. Everything you will need to know, and buy, if available through Northern Tint Co.

Thanks Darren.

The reason why i want to do it myself is because around here shops charge around 100 bucks to do the fronts alone.

I had that done on my old Ranger and it didn't last anymore than 6 months before i was pulled over and forced to remove it. At least if i do it myself and have to remove it, it wont be a waste and i can re do them later down the road.

I see what you mean. My tint also all costed $46 I believe, plus 2 bottles of tint solution. Already had a heat gun ( didn't even need it ) and surgical knives.

Thats odd. huh. No I ordered a legit Supercab kit, but I should also state I ordered over ebay and not direct through the site.

Here is a live link.

Be sure to specify that you have a slider or solid rear window. The majority of Fords come with sliders but they will use Solid as standard.

Looks liek they only went up $5 since my original purchase in 2008, its still a bargain.

OIC, thanks.
is there a difference between a 2 door window and the super cab windows?
reason i ask is that the 2 door front tints are cheaper than the SCAB's front window tints...

Yes, there is about a 2" difference. Supercab's have longer doors than the Supercrews and reg cabs.

Supercrew/Reg cab short door

My Supercab pic from page 1.

Same story around here. 95 bucks for the front two on my 04. I had it done when I was in Florida for 50 bucks but my cousin wanted his done in Michigan and every shop was almost 100 bucks

So he came back with some cheap tint from walmart (would not recommend this tint) But it wasnt hard to do IMO. Im pretty skilled at wrap installation and hood size decals tho so I knew what to watch out for.

Just pay attention and keep the window wet the whole time until you squegie it out.

Keep a steady hand on the razor blade and measure before twice before you cut and you'll be fine.
