If I were you and wanted to do it right. I would sand them smooth, then hit them with filler primer, sand smooth, prime them again, then sand again. Use a few coats of adhesion promoter, then use Duplicolor paint for them (pepboys has a lot of our colors) and then 2-3 coats of Duplicolor clear. Someone might advise differently, however that would be my steps. I plan on getting LT handles at some point so they look good and just like their from the factory.

Hmm the texture is something I didnt consider, maybe I'll get the chrome covers and prep/paint them, much easier to change if I dont like it or anything happens and will give me a smoother finish in the end. $30 on ebay... Any objections?
I agree also, sand the originals down. Take them off and separate the handle from the bucket, that way you have the space to get into the small areas. I didn't sand mine the first time and ended up redoing mine off the truck and apart. The problem with the chrome handles is.... Some don't cover the entire handle and you would see the black areas under and around the handles.
Be prepared to have some drying time. If you take them off the truck, I would let them cure for at least 24 hours minimum

i think they've already steered you away from the krylon fusion but just so ya know, the krylon red pepper doesnt match. the red lid on the can is a perfect match but the paint is a lighter color.

Alright thanks. Gonna atleast get the prep work done tomorow then paint saturday morning.
On my way to do the red now, just letting my final primer coat dry. Doing one side tonight and the other first thing tomorow morning. Figured I'd do one side and see what I could learn instead of doing both then saying "hmm should have done it this way...". Will post pictures tomorow. Probably taking the stripe off if all turns out well just to get a good clean look.
Cool. Just let em dry a while like truckguy said. I painted mine on thursday night, then put them in sunday night. But the duplicolor drys mush faster then krylon anyway.
