I just did my grille with SEM adhesion promoter type stuff, not called that but works the same way, then hit it with Dupli-color dark charcoal bumper paint. Turned out amazing. Long term feedback not available, just did it 2 weeks ago.
I recently used Black Magic trim restore, it's good, but having to apply it every week or month is annoying.
I think I rather would have spent it on a Krylon Satin Black....
Sanded down: 1000grit,1500grit
Cleaned with Acetone
Sprayed Adhesion Promoter from Dupli-Color (3-4 light coats)
Sprayed 3-4 coats of Black (for plastic) Dupli-Color. They also make trim spray
Sprayed Clear Coat, 3-4 coats, last one being a heavy coat
Looks perfect and still holding after a few months.
I love this site! Seems like most everything thats driving me crazy ie the faded black plastic and window trim, is making somebody else nuts too! Ha Ha! I'm going the paint route. What about the pillars???

I used green scotch bright pad and scuffed them up and painted a light coat of krylon satin black Fusion Paint, and then just did light coats till it had full coverage. Turned out great didn't use any adhesion promoter you can scratch your fingernails on them and it doesn't chip or anything its been a little over a month in nasty SC heat
Hope this helps

for prep work for painting I used 3M 1000 grit wet/dry sandpaper and wet sanded them
cleaned them with dawn dish detergent to remove any residue
the did 3 coats of Krylon Satin Black, let dry between each coat
then did 2 light layers of clear coat (rattle can) and let dry between coats and re-installed
has yet to fade, chip etc and has been over 9 months or so
I have used the back to black...works ok but you will be doing it every few weeks to restore the black
As of now I am using Black Wow which works for a little longer...still needs to be reapplied.
Best result thus far is painting. I still need to do my bed rails and rear bumper top plastic piece....next summer hopefully. I have yet to come up with a fix for the window surround rubber pieces.
No offense, but Back to Black kinda sucks. You have to use it ALL the time to keep it looking nice. And, every time it rains that **** runs all down the side of your truck and looks awful.
I'd use Armorall before I ever use that stuff again.
