can i connect an amp to a stock 2010 fx2 cd player?
i'm going to be buying a new 2010 f150 fx2 this weekend. i was wondering if i would be able to connect an amp to the factory cd player so that i can hook up some subs. it doesnt look like you're able to put an after market cd player in because of the way the console it made. any advice?

To the OP, yes you can hook up an amplifier to a stock headunit. There are harnesses available to make installing one simple, but fundamentally an amplifier needs power from the battery, ground, signal, and a remote turn-on which your radio and vehicle all provide. It's all a matter of installing the proper wires power and ground, and locating the proper wires to connect from for signal and remote turn-on.
I haven't searched but I'm sure there are dash kits available to install an aftermarket radio into your truck. They won't be cheap since they are a huge part of your radio bezel, but they should be out there.

LOL, you didnt ask if part A or part B will work.
Your question worked like this...
bartender: 'Can you drink beer with a straw?'
PorkCereal: 'yes you can'
Yes i was being a smartass. But only because the OP didnt quite ask everything he wanted to in the question or assumed someone would just cough up the info we KNEW he wanted.

All he needs is a hi/low adapter and tap off the speaker lines when use a lead thats only hot when the radio is for a remote lead. Im sure they make a fancy box for it.

FYI Dash kits arent expensive. They just convert the double din to a single din using the stock mounting holes. I wanna say less then 30$

I get single and double din designed dash kits for $10. To me, $15 is cheap. $30 for a basic kit isn't exactly cheap, and new bezels are getting expensive as well.

it doesnt just pull off like the 08's do? i just went on MSN and looked at the interior of what looks like an XLT and then a higher up one. looks like it would still just pull off. if thats the case, then the dash kit would only be like $20. i have heard the schoche kits are TOO universal where they have a weird fit sometimes. i went with bestkits for my 08 and it fit perfect. altho persnoally i have not had any problems with the schoche kits, but i have only intalled like 5 and my 97 ranger and my 04 f150 heritage used the same one im pretty sure.

Yeah look further up in this thread and you'll see WHITE04XLT posted a link to a headunit dash install kit for the '09 and '10 F150s. It is an entire bezel. Also if you can find pictures of the standard radio (without nav) for the '09 and '10 F150, you'll see that not al of the buttons are laid out together, like half the buttons are a little higher than the other half and they are divided by a portion of the dash bezel. Headunit installs on the newest F150s aren't as simple as the previous years where you just get a piece of plastic to "fill the holes".

i looked at the link and i see what you guys mean by the whole thing but it still looks like it should be the right width to fit an aftermarket. maybe that one is for the ones that have the navigation screen?? i dont know but it still looks like one should fit with a normal dash kit. my 08 has the switches for the heater and stuff on it and i didnt have to change anything over. maybe id have to actually pull one off of an 09 to see what you guys mean about them having to be transferred over.

Yeah the 08 and 09 are totally different. I checked out larger images of the new F150s with the navi system and you'd still need a whole bezel because you have the screen, then a portion of the bezel, then more radio functions. Looks like in the 09 and 2010 F150s the bezel is needed for a new headunit.
As for the link, it does fit an aftermarket headunit just fine. It's your choise whether you wanna throw a single or double din unit in there. But in terms of installing an aftermarket headunit, that is the piece you'll need, nothing small like with the previous generations F150s.
