Specs says 250 watts @ 4ohm load (normal).... 1000 watts @ 1ohm (rarely), so price is about right for a 250 watt amp

why not?

Give the lower and middle class something to play with too.

Course those specs are max power so divide by 2.

Old amps are beast. Look up the old Orion Concepts that were stable to well under .0125 ohms. Ungodly!

Far as 1 ohm stable amps, not uncommon at all. They just tend to be pricey and you probably weren't looking for them.

IA 20.1 and 40.1 live for sub .25 ohm loads, so they still exist.

AutoTek MM stuff is absolute beast. It will do well over rated, particularly at higher voltages and doesnt eat too much current under .5 ohm.

I was just shocked to see this at WalMart. Its kinda high end for them, and they don't exactly sell a driver that can handle it, unless we are talking about chaining 14 prefab boxes together somehow in the trunk. Itll do about 600-700 at 1.35 ohm, had a buddy who benched one.

The old Autotek was made in the USA by Zed Audio . The same company that used to make amps for Lanzar , Crunch,Hifonics,Rodek,Cadence,Nakamichi and Alphasonic to name a few . These Zed made amps were monsters . Maxxsonics bought out Autotek and now it is made overseas and no where near as good as it used to be . This is pretty much what happened to most of the good American Audio of the past .

1 ohm amps are usually pretty pricey. Rockford 1000.1bd FTW.
