2 amps, seats out, lots of questions

I have some questions about install, I have the rear seat out and a couple amps to choose from. Just installed Polk Components in the doors and Polk 6x8's or whatever they are in the rear. I have a LOC to keep the factory stereo.

Here are the q's-

How do you mount the amp rack to the back wall? Seems like a clearance issue, even though people say no. Mount it low maybe?

It seems final, meaning you have no control or adjustment once it's all set, correct? Tune it before you put it back together I guess?

I plan on running the RCA's and speaker wire through the center, is there an easy way to remove the center console to do that? I haven't actually search that yet..

I plan on using the JL 300/4 for the speakers, and the MTX 275 for the sub. I have a qlogic box, and need to buy a sub.

Any recs on subs that will fit? I think they need to be under 5 inches?

The other amp is another spare, and I could use that for the 10 I guess but it's big and probably overkill....

not to be a dik or anything, you started ur thread off a bit on the f,u, side. some could be offended, free advice. i personally dont care.here you go, this thread has all the answers, get a piece of 1/2" mdf, or oak ply for ur board, get rid of the carpet, dont seal the vents http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/...w-install.html

Interesting approach. I think I would have left the rear seat in until I knew what I was doing but yes, amps on the back wall. No need to remove the seat bottoms. Also, I ran the wires up the sides under the sill plates, down the middle seemed like un-needed stuff to be removed.

Sorry, wasn't trying to offend. I made my first post about a month ago, and got blasted for asking a simple question without searching. I love the search function, sometimes easier just to ask when you can't find what your looking for is all.

That's for the link, very detailed. I have the MDF thing figured out, but I still can't find what they are using to attach the amp rack to the metal on the back wall of the truck? Big sheet metal screws or something?

Your right, didn't probably need to pull the rear seats. This trucks sits enough, I can use another car so I'm planning a week install here and there when I get time. I did drive it, and it's hella noisy with the back seat out. I wasn't going to, but now I think I might dynamat the rear area to cut down on the noise.

go to hardware store, get a box of 1" self tapping screws. i used the ones with a 5/16 head on them, use ur drill with a 5/16 nut driver bit. i like these better than the phillips

It appears you have a 09 model? The center console is very simple to remove - about 8 bolts or so and the entire thing is off. Do you have Nav or the basic radio system?

Before you screw into the back wall, remove the felt (four or five push type plastic fastners) and it will come right out - then you can see where to screw the board onto without going through the cab!

Plus you'll have to either leave the felt off and cover with something else or cut the felt around your amps.

And I know what you mean about that beyatch being loud without the felt!

Thanks, sheet metal screws... got it, easy enough.

Mine is 07', still not sold on the wires through the center thing. I ran my power wire down the Pax side though. So it's either center, or drivers side.

Anything like dynamat that is cheaper than dynamat? That stuff is spendy!

I ran power wire underneath the truck on the driver side to a grommet at the back of the cab.

RCA wires and speaker wires all under the sill plates on the passenger side as someone else already suggested.

You can also use an epoxy to hold the board to the back. It will keep you from dilling holes.

before you go an mount a board up lay down some sound deadener. You'll thank me later. Oh and do cover those silly vents. There's a god awful amount of noise that comes through those things. Nothing bad happens except when you drive the a/c on high you might notice the increase in pressure. After a day or 2 you won't notice. Take the cover off and you'll see some support ribs there to mount the board to.

Personally speaking, I was planning to rip out that stupid arse, worthless rear seat in my Supercab, before I even got the darn truck home from the Ford dealer ! {I remember telling the dealer that, and he was like, "You know they will fold up right ? And I remember thinking to myself, "Dude, don't waste your breath

} .....and this was before I had even considered an aftermarket stereo, with sub box

It did actually look really clean, with lots of wide open, flat, carpeted, in-cab storage space back there, for the short time before I went on an installed my system. I still have some storage space back there, even with the stereo, but obviously, the system ate a big chunk of it.

With my AADD, I don't need anyone sitting behind me when I'm driving anyway + I ALWAYS have a seat in my truck. It's the one behind the steering wheel

the walls have two layers of metal kinda like a rib..u can screw the top part of the amps there if u dont want screws poking out. dynamat is prolly the best thing in my truck..prolly more then my speakers..since dynamat/sound deadener defines the diffrence between a mediocre truck and a luxury truck...id say run ur wires on the driverside since power is on pax, all u gotta do is lift up the plastic trim and not ur entire center console and carpet, then run under ur carpet under pedals and up the dash

I knew when I went looking at full size trucks a year go this body style ('04-'08) was not going to be in my price range with desirable options.

I knew a screw was out of the question on price and practicality. I also knew the regular cab was not enough room and looks a little too small and not proportional for me. So maybe it is silly to have a scab, but for me it is more than enough roomy for the occasional passengers. A lot better than my old S-10 extended cab and my more recent ranger scab. That was silly to think people could fit back there. If you can get away with not having a rear seat, go for it. I do applaud your efforts Fish, nice to see someone do something a little different. Being a big guy all my life, it must be nice to be sort of normal....right?
