Stock Horsepower for 4.6?

Does anyone out there know what the stock horsepower was for the '97 4.6?? Doing a rebuild and I would like to know. Also does anyone know of some good bolt on mods besides the regular stuff (headers, chip, exhaust, intake) thanks to anyone who helps out.

The 97's were rated at 210 HP. Then they moved up to 220, then again to 231...what's next?

Electric Fans, Headers (expensive...saving up as we speak), Throttle Body (75mm), pulleys.

In 1997, 210 HP @ 4400 rpm and 290 ft lbs. of torque @ 3250.
The 5.4 was only pumping (F-150's) 235 HP @ 4250. In 99, we were pumping 220 @ 4400 and in 01-02 they switched to PI heads. That bumped the HP up to 231 @ 4400.
Amazing how far we've come!

Back in '98 when I bought my truck, the HP ratings for the 4.6 were a little confusing. The numbers that were posted in most of the magazines were that the 4.2 had 205 HP, and the 4.6 had 210 HP. However in the manual itself I belive, Ford listed the 4.6 at 220 HP. So I figured I always had somewhere between 210 and 220 but was never really sure which it actually was. For '98 is the true number actually 210? If so, is 290 ft. lbs of torque the correct number aswell?

It is confusing! What I stated above was related to my by my friend, Mike who is an SVT parts man at a MAJOR northern California dealership. I had asked him directly because my father didn't believe that his truck was rated 21 horses less than mine. From all the documentation I've seen, I believe that the stock 97-98 ARE rated at 210 horses. In my 01-02 mannual, They don't even list engine HP. Weird!!!!

You didn't get much response on mods to make, so I'll reinforse the suggestion to get electric fans. That's what I plan to do next since I already have the intake, exhaust and chip. I hear it's good for at least 15 hp at the rear wheels.

I was under the impression that the '97 were rated low. That the '98 4.2 and 4.6 got a minimal increase 4.2-210 and 4.6-220. In '99 the 5.4 got the PI heads increasing it from 235 to 260. In '01 the 4.6 got the PI heads bringing it to 231.

Like STX/98, my manual says that my 4.6 is rated at 220. I hope that's true so that my estimates on my hp now are close. I guess I'll have to dyno it to be sure.

I'm not pulling this out of my a$$! j/k
Here's the breakdown I know to be true:

97-98 210 HP (4.6)
99-00 220 HP (4.6)
01-pres. 231 HP (4.6)

If I'm wrong, please tell me so that I don't mislead someone!

Thanks!

In 97 when I bought my f150, 4.6l s/c the hp was rated at 210 and the torque was rated at 290 ft/lbs. I believe that in '98 the HP was increased to 220. It may have been in '99, I really didn't pay attention. I was too busy tinkering with my '97. The '97 is rated at those two number, or at least that is what the dealer told me!

In the nascar pamplet that came with my truck, it said my engine was rated at 220hp. But I also have the fou1 computer code which is a bit more aggressive, or so i hear.

The only way to tell, really, is to put the engine directly onto a dyno.

Did Ford pull the Numbers out of their A$$? J/K LOL!!!
A bunch of engineers just decided to say that their engine pumped out an even number such as 210 in 1997 without dynoing it!

Don't mean to be a smart A$$, but this is funny!!!! LOL!!!

It gets even stranger . . .

When I bought my truck (a 97 F-150 with the 4.6) the Ford Brochure for the 1997 model year said the 4.6 had 220hp. My owners manual says it has 210hp.

Which one is right? Not a clue

im not sure but wasnt there an early 98 and late 98 model f150? That might be where some of the confusion comes from
