Question Shifter Rattle in 5th gear

My transmission has recently started rattling in 5th gear at 65 on the highway. My truck is a 95 f150 4x4 with a 302. I'm wondering if this could be caused by u joints going or if this is a problem with the trans.

The problem started after having my truck get stuck at work... Pond overflowed and rear tires where frozen in an inch or two of ice after work. After rocking forward and reverse a bit in 4 wheel drive the truck came out. I then unlocked the hubs and started home with no problems till I hit the highway. Once I hit 65 the sifter began to rattle.

I'm wondering if while rocking the u-joints took abuse. (truck has 120,000 on it and I doubt the u-joint were ever replaced before) Also I'm wondering if the fact that the vibration happens at a certain speed if this would be a clue that it's not a transmission problem but rather something that happen at a certain frequency?

Thanks for the help

is it possible that you have ice inside your rims that is causing an out-of-balance condition on your wheels?

If your u-joints have 120,000 miles on them, you might want to check them. It's possible that they could have been knocked out of wack when you rocked your truck back and forth to get out of the ice. They were problably already worn out, and the rocking finished them off. Also check the shifter to see if it's bolted on properly. And also check the 4 bolts that holds your driveshaft onto the rearend. They could vibrate if they're loose at 65 mph in 5th gear. Just my 2 cents. Hope I helped.
