I just found a B&M transmission pan for the 4R70W. It's aluminum with the cooling fins along the bottom and holds 3 extra quarts!!! This is probably a dumb question but would this be a good investment worth the money??

Is changing the pan just as easy as changing the pan? There's no pickup or anything inside to worry about since the pan is alot deeper than stock?

I don't do alot (hardly any) towing but my concern on trans temps is when the converter unlocks (or locks if I got it backwards) going down the highway. It's really windy where I live and not uncommon to drive around like that for several miles. I couldn't believe what that caused after I got a temp gauge...WOW. Anyway, would like to help battle that some but didn't really have a need to change the coolers and all that.

 

It's a nice pan but verrrry pricey. If you're concerned about heat, then you are mych better of putting the oney into a cooler. You can get a nice B&M stacked plate for about a third the cost. If you already have a cooler, then don't sweat it.

As far as difficulty in relpacing, Piece of cake on a 2wd. Don't know about 4wd, may be a skid plate or some other obstruction.

 

Do you have to use an extension for the filter? Or do you have to use a special filter? Sorry to butt in but was wondering the same thing.

 

I believe the pan for the 4R70W comes with an extension for the filter pickup.

 

I dont know if you have 4WD or not but if you do the rear of the pan is a really tight fit against the trans crossmember. One member here wound up trimming that side to make more clearance.

I tried doing a search for it but the search function does'nt like 3 letter words like B&M or pan so maybe someone will come forward with the relative details.

Mine is a 2WD. I heard that the B&M pan has aluminum pegs that come up from the bottom that the filter sits on. I don't know if it is true but it sounds better than using the extension. I'm afraid that extension might shake loose or not seal well. Maybe I'm just paranoid.

 

I have an aluminum pan from www.performanceautomatics.com it is a nice unit. i havent put it on yet though. I dont think it is deeper than stock too much. but it has a drain plug and the cooling fins.
