4R70W Self-Destructs in Passing Gear - 3rd & 4th Gone in a blink!
Going from second into third, it seemed like park brake came on -- tranny shuddered like in two gears. After several attempts to continue, the tranny lost third and fourth gears.
Only First and Second gear remained.
At 42K miles, there's no excuse for a transmission to self-destruct!
This truck was built in 10 of 1999 as a 7700 series (was called the F-250LD the prior model year) -- and it appears that subsequent 7700 series trucks went back to the 4R100 tranny instead of the 4R70W.
The tranny came with the much discussed "Green Sticker" (see: http://www.f150online.com/forums/sea...by=&sortorder= ).
I've already changed the tranny fluid THREE TIMES (dealer did it) -- expecting to have the truck for 10-15 years.
Has any one else had a smilar problem (losing 3rd and 4th)?
