Question 5.4 Supercharger addition??

I was wondering if anyone can drop me some info. about installing a supercharger on my '00 F-150 w/ a 5.4. I'm wondering how many internal engine mods I will have to make( heavier bearings, crank, etc.) to be able to handle the added power?
Any hints, tips, suggestions, would be greatly suggested. Thank you in advance....

No internal mods needed. Just purchase a kit and bolt'er on up. What kind of power you lookin for?

I too am interested in supercharger info. I have seen post mentioning ATI and I have never before heard of thius brand. Is it a positive displacement type?

I have a 99 Expedition XLT w/ 5.4L, 2WD, 3.73 Limited Slip, 285/70-16's (factory size 255/70-16), Tow Package, Super engine cooling (larger rad & oil cooler)

My goals are, like most, to have more overall torque & hp avail from just off idle. I was considering Magnacharger & Kenne Bell (heard some unpleasant things on KB though)

Am I wrong in dismissing the ATI, Paxton, Vortex types? I hear that in the lower rev range that I spend most of my driving in they don't offer much boost (1500-3000). BUT am I missing something. Could it be that they offer less engine drag and have other benifits that would let my motor apper to run more or less stock untill I really want to smoke it?

What are the pros and cons of each setup?

Have any comparisons on the Magna in a screw? I saw the numbers from the ATI, but the Magna appeals to me more. Just waiting for some concrete data before I spring for it, unless of course you can give me a discount if I provide a buttload of feedback data on it. Also, does the Magna use the stock air intake?

Place a call out to NoDrive55. He's got a Screw (5.4L) with a Magna in it and I've seen him run 14.9's at the local track.

Question

CRASH!,

A couple of comments/questions on the pictures in your album:

Is/was the ATI installed on a 4.6 or 5.4?

In the pictures, the throttle body faces straight forward, on my 250 SD/5.4, the throttle body is angled towards the front left (drivers) corner of the engine - assuming the SC mounts in a similar position as shown in the picture, how would you expect the intercooler plumbing to be routed??

Again, the air intake plumbing was routed between the radiator and fan - I assume the fan shroud was removed/left off... was there a loss of cooling?? What about engine torquing/movement?

I've been leaning towards the ATI lately, due to ease of installation and inherent good low-end performace of the 5.4 making up for any possible lag from the ATI.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks,

Dan

Question

Anyone hear about those new Holley superchargers? I was told they produce good results. Anyone have one installed? I would like to compare it to few others...
I'm looking for some good overall power gain. I just don't know where to go from here...

Hi SVT - welcome to the board!

There was a guy about a year ago who put a Holley on his SD. He had some fit problems but worked through them and was happy with the end result. If you read the Holley webpage, it is pretty clear that they expect you to make things work for yourself (comments like "you will have to find a lightning alternator").

If the search feature was working, I would suggest a search of the Other Aftermarket forum for "Holley Supercharger".

Ian

It's also interesting that the Holley kit costs $2500 more than equivalent running s/c's. That's the main thing that turned me away from them. Why pay that much more when you can get one that will do the same thing for $2500 less?

Exclamation

Crash!

I've added photos of my F250 SD engine compartment to my photo gallery - I hope they show enough detail.... Let me know if you need any other shots.

Thanks,

Dan
