04 F150 engine swap

I have a 2004 F150 4x4 with the 5.4l 3v triton motor that needs replacing due to trusting a mechanic that said he could replace the plugs in it, and he wound up blowing my motor up. I was wondering if any other motor besides the triton motors will bolt up to the transmission in my truck. Am just considering all the possibilities before proceeding with spending the cash on a reman 5.4.

No. No other motor is a practical swap.

How did the mechanic "blow the motor up"? What's actually wrong with it now?

Not exactly sure what he did, I do know that he took the heads off to get the plugs out. He also replaced the timing chains, guides and tensioners. Going on the info from the local ford dealer he didn't get the cams exactly right which caused multiple issues. The motor runs now, but the oil pressure is at 13 psi, and will not build any higher.

09+ is a hard swap. Someone did it and had a kit of issues. Late 08 with brown cop boots is the one side go for.

This is a deal where you would have saved a ton of money basically an engine by having a ford mechanic work on your engine to late now but the plugs can be removed with special tools. Your guy obviously has no clue what he's doing..

Clueless. I'd take him to small claims court. Guess he never heard of the Lisle 65600 tool.

When are you going to turn off your autocorrect? At least look at it before you hit Send..........

I am looking at what other engines will bolt up to the trans either new or older.... I am determining the best route to take. I will be doing all the work myself (cheaper), unless I go with having the local ford shop do it (much more expensive). The motor does not need to be a newer one I can go with pretty much any option right now, i.e. 351W, 302.....

Its really not practical infact I've never seen anyone put an older engine in place of a modular. The most sensible thing is to get the samething you have and if your gonna do all that work get a better one then the one you took out..

The only engines with the same bell housing pattern are the modulars (4.6, 5.4, 6.8) and the new 5.0 and 6.2.

Reviving this thread.. I've got my 04 5.4 triton just waiting to be blown to hell.. I've been thinking the same thing here.. just swap the motor out.

So in reading this thread I'm now wondering what my options are and I can't tell for sure what the right thing to do is..

Up to 08 is direct swap or no?

5.0L .. ? What years would work?

Thanks for any input.

Ty

actually any 3v 5.4 is a direct swap. Period. in late 07 early 08 they changed to a one piece plug design and the newer motors have cam phaser fixes. the 3v 5.4 was available until 2010 or so.
