Replacement key help!

I may be jumping the gun a little bit, but here goes.

Newly purchased 2010 fx4 screw. Right now I only have 1 key, 1 key fob, and a boa key fob. I have someone that is going to look at it this coming Wednesday. I believe it has remote start but I can't get it to work.

From what I have read, you need to have a key stored underneath the dash somewhere for an aftermarket remote start to work. I am hoping it is under there somewhere. If it is not, then I only have 1 key and need to get a couple spares made.

I can get a key fob for around $10 off ebay and 2 chipped keys for around the same. Or I may get two keys with fob built in for around $35.

So getting blank keys or extra key fob is no big deal, but I have read that you need 2 keys to program any new keys. Is this true?? I also read somewhere that you did not.

If I do need 2 and I only have 1, what are my options to program new ones? Dealer? Which will be a rip-off. Or I have read that a lock smith can do it.

Any help would be appreciated. I am hoping that the guy looking into the remote start will find another key somewhere and save me some aggravation.

From what I understand, some hardware stores now have the computer that can program keys. However, they will NOT cut and program blanks that you bring in.

you need two "admin" keys (working and already programmed keys) to program any additional keys on your own. Otherwise a trip to the dealer is going to be needed. I have also heard hardware stores advertising they can program them as well, Ace hardware told me they could program a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu chipped key for $25, might work for the Ford too.

The Ace here has the machine, but they will only cut and program their blanks. I wouldn't be surprised if dealers had the same policy.

I have an aftermarket remote start (can't off hand remember the model) but there is no key anywhere in the truck to make it work.

I found a walmart close to me. Talked to guy on phone and he said he has a key for my truck in stock and can program. Guessing this will work even though i dont have 2 keys.

Gotta check with ford dealer again. They said $30 something for key. But im guessing that doesnt include cutting or programming.

I would get the Walmart key, then if you don't like their key you now have 2 keys that you can program your eBay keys with.

I love my all in one key fob on my 2013.

Got another key today. True Value hardware store did it. $70. But oh well, needed it.

Now that i have 2 keys, can i program additional keys myself? Or do i need 2 original ford keys? Hoping im ok with 1 ford key n 1 key i just got made.

From what I remember you have to have two factory keys to program another . By the way I got a fusion key and had ace hardware cut it . They give me a piece of paper telling order to program it . Just 30 dollars here . I love having the key with remote built in .

You need two "admin" keys, which is not necessarily just the two factory ones. Basically all you need is two already programmed and working keys. That's why I programmed my third one. Now if i ever lose one, i can make another one myself for like $9.

Well...got the chipped key i ordered off ebay. I got it cut n so far no luck programming it. I followed manual n nothing.

I have 1 ford key that came with it n 1 i got cut n programmed at true value. Truck computer says i have 3 admin keys programmed. I am assuming its the ford key i have, true value key, n 1 the previous owner prob lost.

Any thoughts??
