Rim Width for 2000 F150 4x4 Offroad
Hello, I am new to the site and really need some info quickly. I have just bought my 15 year old daughter a 2000 model F150 4x4 Offroad. She will turn 16 in about 5 weeks and all she has ever wanted is a "jacked up" 4x4 pickup truck. The truck I bought had already had a leveling kit installed and has the stock 17 inch rims on it. The guy had just put a new set of 315/70 BF Goodrich Ko's on it. They look awesome and the truck really sets up pretty high with these tires. I am wanting to get her some cool looking chrome 17 inch aftermarket rims but need to know what width/offset/backspacing I can run. I think the stock rims are 7.5" wide but I am not sure. I want the new rims to stick out some from under the fenders to give the truck a more aggressive look. I do not want them sticking way out but maybe 2 or 3 inches. Any help would be appreciated. Oh yea, the front bumper valance has been trimmed and the tires work great. They only slightly rub the on the inside if turned completely.
thanks for any help you guys and gals can give me.

the factory wheels are 7.5" wide with 5.5" of backspacing (pretty sure on that). with that size tire (basically a 35x12.50) you would need to be pretty close to factory specs. i can't run that size tire with my current wheels (9" wide, 4.5" backspacing) without significant rubbing. unless you have a lift kit (a 3" body lift will do) the only way to fit 35s on a truck like yours is with the factory wheels (or aftermarket with the same specs).

The OEM 97-03 17 inch wheels are 7.5 inches wide with 4.5 inches of backspacing. This is your problem. To fit 35's on a stock 4x4, you will have to use the OEM wheels or maybe a 17x8 inch wheel and the same backspacing. Pesonally, I'd suggest adding a 3 inch body lift and some 17x10 inch wheels (with 4.5 inches of BS).

thanks for input
I really appreciate the input. I will try to post some pics soon. I may end up going with your suggestion of maybe an 8" rim with the same back spacing (4.5") from the comments. I would really like to put the 3" body lift on but do not know if I have time before the big day. Has any of you guys did it? How long would it take? I am very comfortable working on my vehicle and would have all the tools required.

I would hope I could draft a buddy to help. With a 3 inch, was there any modifications to linkages, shifters, etc. I friend of mine told me today because this truck has the 4 wheel manual shifter, I would maybe have to cut the floor due to the shifter dropping down. Is that correct? Thinking hard about it.

The Performance Accessories body lifts are the most complete kits on the market. Every detail is addressed. I'm not sure about the transfer case shifter as mine has the dial but I'm sure it's addressed. It really depends on how the shifter is designed. Some are on a linkage (like 88-98 GM's) and nothing has to be done. Others are mounted directly to the transfer case, like the 86 S-10 I used to own. I had to trim about 1/2 inch of sheetmetal out of the floor to be able to engage 4 Lo.

BUMP!
I have a set of these sitting in my garage. I want to mount them on my Jetta and am trying to find the detailed spec on the wheels so that I can have the adapters made.
I know they are 17x7.5 with a 5x135 bolt pattern. What is the exact backspacing on these and the hub diameter?
The Jetta runs a ~35mm offset and up to a 45mm with no issues.
The wheels have offset 14 cast into the back of them. If this is the case adding a 1" 25.4mm adapter would be about perfect
But if the backspacing is 5.5-4.5 I will have a few inches to make up with the adapters. What obvious fact am I overlooking?
Thanks a round of e-beers for the house!

again if I'm wrong Idc, I just need to know. Granted there is a very small movement I am making when taking these pics. I am going off of these measurements to find wheel fitment for my truck, I'm rubbing on the upper arm with a 37 thats 13.5" wide on this wheel. I wasn't rubbing with this same wheel and a 35" 12.5 tire with a .25 spacer. The 37 fitment had the small spacer as well.
