Ok, so I am thinking about purchasing a '97 F150 4x4 with a 4.6L V8 motor. It has a 5 speed trans in it. Would a 5.0 motor fit that transmission? Or would I have to buy another trans as well? I would LOVE to have a F150 pickup with a 5 speed 4x4, but they are impossible to find in a V8.

 

5 speed for v6 fits 5.0 windsor and 5 speed for 4.6 has a different bell housing. Stock 5 speed is a Mazda M5OD and isn't going to hold up to high power etc.

 

That's what I was afraid of. Grrr. May as well find a 5.0 truck that already is stock 5 speed. Could be looking awhile, haven't seen any around here where I live.

 

You will only find a 5.0 in a 1996 or older truck. What's wrong with a 4.6? It has more power than a stock 5.0 and it's a very reliable engine.

 

^what he said. Heck, i beat a kid in a race with my 4.6, and he had a 5.8. he had me off the line, i caught and beat him by a truck length.

 

Yeah, I know the 4.6's are great engines, but I still like the 5.0s I am possibly buying a 1985 F150 5.0 with a 5 speed and 4x4.

 

You might find that the 5 speed in the 85 won't hold up either. Specially if you pump up the power.....
