BREAKING NEWS: Ford – F150 EcoBoost Shudder Fix Confirmed

Responding to our story late last week about EcoBoost F-150 shudder problems, a source at Ford has told us that a fix has been found and that current EcoBoost F150 owners will be given the opportunity to fix their trucks in early November.

Specifically:
1.All new EcoBoost F150s manufactured after Sept. 18th,2012 have received a redesigned CAC (charged air cooler) that addresses the moisture build-up problem.
2.Beginning early next month, Ford will issue a TSB that instructs dealers to replace the CAC in any EcoBoost F150 that’s suffering from this problem with the redesigned unit.

The redesigned CAC will not collect condensation in the same way that the current unit does, so this problem should be officially fixed very shortly.

Just waiting for that TSB to come out! I hope this is really a permanent fix.

My new FX4 with ecoboost was built October 9th. So far no shudder issues.

So has anyone heard anything about some of the 5.0's that are experiencing somewhat of the same issues?

^ I thought the 5.0 shudder was because the ECM pulls timing out of the motor at idle and creates a stumble?

is anyone else suspicious that the only information on this is from a Toyota Tundra blog? Any other news references online seem to be posted by this same Tundra guy.

Hardly seems to be a reputable source of Ford news.

Can any ecoboost owners confirm this from personal contact with a Ford dealer?

Yeah, I didn't take a whole lot of value from the link. Especially on that link when the comments added Ford recall and said Ford better get the same flack as toyota. When in fact toyotas runaway cars killed and hurt multiple people. Ford has no injuries or deaths reported...BIG difference toyota sheeple!!

It's a valid source. The TSB is 12-10-19 and replaces the CAC's in those trucks already built.
It also looks like the new trucks are coming in with yet a third version of CAC with different connections and ports (which couldn't be retro fitted to existing trucks)

Also, with all the talk about shudders, it's important to know there are several types and causes. The CAC replacement on the 3.5 engines is for the violent shudder and/or fall on it's face issue. There are other softer shudders possible with any of the engines/trucks that have been resolved by fixing issues with: wheels, tires, drive shaft, tans, tq converter, bad plugs, bad coils.

I don't think it's any different that other brands. When Ford builds over a thousand trucks per day, you're gonna hear of more issues than other brands just because of the volume. Do a search and you'll see the very same issues on all brands. Thanks to the internet you are more aware of them, but it also gives you another resource to find a solution for the unusual problems.

You could buy a Chebby. Since they've been using the same underpowered engine for 14 years they should have all of the bugs worked out by now.

Or I could keep driving my trouble free 98 f150, just saying.

I don't have any shudders right now ... but if this TSB goes a little overboard while preventing my truck from falling on it's face when I need it most then I'll suffer the inconvenience of having it done proactively.
