04 F150 engine swap
I have a 2004 F150 4x4 with the 5.4l 3v triton motor that needs replacing due to trusting a mechanic that said he could replace the plugs in it, and he wound up blowing my motor up. I was wondering if any other motor besides the triton motors will bolt up to the transmission in my truck. Am just considering all the possibilities before proceeding with spending the cash on a reman 5.4.

Not exactly sure what he did, I do know that he took the heads off to get the plugs out. He also replaced the timing chains, guides and tensioners. Going on the info from the local ford dealer he didn't get the cams exactly right which caused multiple issues. The motor runs now, but the oil pressure is at 13 psi, and will not build any higher.

I am looking at what other engines will bolt up to the trans either new or older.... I am determining the best route to take. I will be doing all the work myself (cheaper), unless I go with having the local ford shop do it (much more expensive). The motor does not need to be a newer one I can go with pretty much any option right now, i.e. 351W, 302.....

So in reading this thread I'm now wondering what my options are and I can't tell for sure what the right thing to do is..
Up to 08 is direct swap or no?
5.0L .. ? What years would work?
Thanks for any input.
