Painting interior door panel problem
Got some "new" door panels from the junkyard, but they are tan, and my interior is gray. So I got some Colorbond dark graphite paint to match them to my truck. Cleaned the hell out of them with soap and water, degreased them, then went over them with a tack cloth. Sprayed Duplicolor Adhesion Promotor, then the Colorbond.
I'm having a real issue getting the Colorbond to bond to the panels. On top of that, after a few coats, it leaves like a gray dust on the panels that I can wipe with my finger.
Do I need to scuff them up with sandpaper to help adhesion? On all the things I looked up on this subject, everyone just said to clean them well and use adhesion promotor. Never anything about sanding the plastic.

to do it right you need to sand them with an harsh grit like 80 or so then prime them once they are dry put on a guide coat go back sand them down with 180 then do another guide coat and step it up to like 400 or 800 wet then paint your color and wet sand again with a 800 or 1000 then clear and do 1500 to 2000 and buff to a wet shine lol I have been down this road and its alot of work but totaly worth the show quality you get out of it

Sounds like a lot of work Badazzhog. I think that if it has some rough edges or blemishes, then sanding may be needed. If you degrease it, then use paint adhesive then paint it should hold up fine. I believe a lot of these companies use different types of chemical bonds so that you use their products and not different brands between coats. Kinda think about it like hook and pile tape. The hook(spray adhesive) and the pile(paint color). Another brand may be just the opposite bond.
I just made sense to my brain(been a long day). Hope it helps.
