DPFE sensor
Ford told me my DPFE sensor is bad, but they wanted a HUGE amount of money. so i figured i would do it myself. i went and bought one, but it doesnt look like what i thought it was on my truck (99 F150, 5.4 ltr engine). what i bought is rectangular, bout 1 1/2 inches by 3 inches. the thing on my truck that has two hoses into it... the thing i THOUGHT was the DPFE sensore is round. anybody have a pic of one, or any suggestions?

Yhup, the DPFE is a rectangular sensor with two hoses going to it (as in the picture).
Do notice one input on the DPFE is bigger than the other. You hook them up backwards and you'll get code P0401. The new sensor may not have the big & small input in the same position as the original. Often, the inputs on the replacement DPFE's are the opposite of the original.

The little black flying saucer thing in the picture above.
Some times you might see DPFE is referenced as the EGR Transducer ?
I have no idea why, but some documentation shows this for some damn reason, maybe someone accidently posted a picture of a EGR Valve, and called it the DPFE ?? Maybe that is where you got your parts corssed ?

figured it out
and got it done.
sheesh... so the Ford dealership told me i had two ignition coils that were mis-firing, and that i needed to replace the DPFE sensor, and my air filter.. and they qouted me 600 bucks.
I did it all myself in about 45 minutes, and the parts cost me 150 bucks.
gee whiz... I know a mechanic has a right to make a living... but 450 bucks for 45 minutes of work? I must be in the wrong business.

Commission
Actually the salesman who works the parts counter gets 10 to 15% commission on the parts he sells you as well..why do you think they tell you that you need new rotors when you go in to have your breaks done even tho they are brand new? lol . Whenever they tell me I need something I take it with a grain of salt and ask several more knowledgeable friends! Half the time I dont need what they say I do.
