Fuel Gauge not working

My Fuel gauge hasnt been working properly for about 2 months now. 2005 F150 5.4L fx4. It randomly goes from past full to empty and every where in between stays at one spot for a couple days then randomly switches. The mechanics said they checke my fuel gauge seems to be working and replaced the fuel sending unit. Any ideas on this issue?

mine does the same thing! It goes from full to empty. It will stay at one spot for awhile (usually when I don't drive around) but then it seems to drop faster when I drive more. I don't understand it!

ok just found out what is wrong I will write down the information from on the paperwork tomorrow. What has happened basically though is there is sulfur build up in the tank for mine at least which causes the fuel sending unit to go bad and also a sensor to go bad and you have to have them both replaced. Like I said I will have the information to ya tomorrow. I spent a ridiculous $630 getting the pump replaced now I have to get the sensor replaced which is about $250

Nevermind found it online.

There is a TSB on high sulfur fuel usage, and how it impacts the fuel level resistance.
If you change fuel, it might start working again. The TSB is : ERRATIC FUEL GAUGE OPERATION TSB 08-2-9

Publication Date: January 22, 2008
FORD: 2004-2008 F-150
LINCOLN: 2006-2008 Mark LT

ISSUE:
Some 2004-2008 F-150 and 2006-2008 Mark LT vehicles, built before 12/3/2007, may exhibit erratic fuel gauge operation or illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0460 or P0463, and/or Instrument Cluster Module DTC B1201. This may be caused by sulfur contamination in the fuel causing an open or high resistance in the fuel level sender.

ACTION:
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Install a new fuel level sender following the service procedure instruction sheet provided in the fuel sender kit.

Piossibly. When my truck did this, it was a bad Fuel Sending Unit. After that $380 repair, I stopped getting gasoline from Sheetz and started paying for the pricier fuel. Been good ever since.
