Truck Won't Start in Park
For a while when I tried to start my truck, 95 F150 Auto 4X4, it wouldn't start unless I jiggled the shifter. It was like the truck didn't think it was in park. Now it won't start no matter how much jiggling I do. I have to shift it into neutral to start it.
What's out of adjustment? I had a new shifter cable installed a little over a year ago. Do they stretch? Where should I start looking?
Thanks!
Chuck

Thanks for the replies. The shifter almost feels like its "one off" from what it reads. I put it in what looked like Drive but it was actually in 2nd. I did have the shift cable replaced about a year ago. Could the cable or sensor be out of adjustment or is it more likely as you all mentioned burned out? It doesn't look all that difficult to replace or that expensive but I'm pretty cheap . Thanks again!

Thanks again for pointing me in a direction to read more. In addition to the not starting in park, I think the sensor may be the problem for my hard shift from 1st to 2nd too. I've owned the truck for about 3 years and its always shifted smoothly when I first start driving but as it warms the shift from 1st to second gets a little harsh. Not really bad but I think its harder than it should be.
