Just bought this truck yesterday. Has the v10 in it. Bought it from a private owner who took great care of this truck since new. Looks fantastic and drives just as good. Has 108k on the engine. Tow package, dark green color. I love it. :o Feeling kind of emotional right now because I was outside cleaning out my 1998 f150 supercab 4.2 5 speed with 99k on it. Let me tell you that has been a great truck but I can't keep both of them. Bought the 250 crew cab because of my growing family and for towing my 18 ft. camper which the f150 pulled fine.

Can anyone tell me what gears I may have in the back of the f250 v10? With the factory size tires on it 265/16's I believe, at 60mph the rpm is at 2 grand in overdrive or fouth gear. At 65mph the r's spinning at 2200 rpm in fouth gear. Any guess's?

Just found the original window sticker in the owners manual. It has the 4.30 gear ratio. Nice!

 

Let us know how bad the gas mileage is, please.

I have the V-10 with 4.30 gears on mine too. He should be getting better than 9 mpg with an empty load. Around 65 mph should get around 12 mpg. Drops quickly by 75 mph due to the higher rpm's.

 

With no load the computer is reading 11.4 average mpg. Did'nt buy it for mpg's, bought it for vacations pulling my travel trailer and for some weekend trips to different BMX tracks in So Cal. Besides, with the 40k I saved from buying new, I can buy a whole lot of gas. I won't even put 3k a year in miles on it. It'll just sit during the week pretty much. I have a Ford Focus ZX3 i use daily that runs my kid back and fourth to local tracks. 34 mpg's on the highway.

Bought the F250 for $8500 from a private owner who kept it in showroom condition. Only mods on the truck is a K&N filter(not cold air system), Flowmaster muffler(The quiet one), and a 46 gallon fuel tank( Yeah I know, I'm gonna need it!). But from what I understand this truck can pull! I did"nt want to under buy my truck only to want more power down the road. When you buy a truck like this you don't worry about mpg's. But yes it's cool to know what others are getting.

love the V10 motor. Plenty of power and with a few mods you can get decent MPG's. Had an 02 4X4 V10 and love it especially compared to my V8. good luck with the truck. Hopes it does well for ya

Had an 2005 F250 Lariat with V10 and loved the power that thing had. You are right, you don't by these for the MPG's, they are used for one thing only................POWER! I remember mine when I was driving empty I believe I averaged 11-12 MPG's and when I was towing my camper it was about 10 MPG's. You have to say not to bad of a drop in MPG's when towing but not too great of an increase when not.. Enjoy it, I miss mine (all except for the frequent fuel stops :-).

Yeah Scott, Bought mine to tow my light weight travel trailer 3200lbs. and have plenty of room in the back seat for my kids. So I'm rolling with our small home behind us. Have'nt taken the trailer out yet. We're going camping the last week of March so I'll see how it does. If I get just 10- 12 mpg, I'll still be happy afterall a C class or an A class motorhome only gets about 7 1/2 mpg's! MM.

 

Mark, expect about 9 mpg towing.

 

Just got back from an 80 mile round trip to go pick up my travel trailer that was getting some warranty work done on it.

Filled the tank and reset the computer. Freeway was 6 miles away and for the next 34 miles it was all highway at 62-63 mph. As you know the farther I went the better the average mpg was. At 3/4's of the way there, Average mpg's was 15.8 mpg. I could have kept that up all day. Just as I was about to get off the ramp it hit 15.9 average.

Now, I pull into the RV center, I have some issues with my truck. Prodigy has to be mounted and plugged in, rear ball hitch has to be ajusted for heighth and I have to back up to my trailer and line up the ball and hitch by myself. Needless to say, the truck was turned on and off a few times at the dealer and was idleing a while when I was lining up my truck with the trailer killing my average mpg.

I take off from the dealer and the freeway is at a stand still. So I took the side streets for 9 miles of stop and go traffic till I could get on a clear freeway. I'm on the freeway and at this point the computer reads 12.5 average miles per gallon. When I arrived at home and was done with the trip, the computer read 12.3 average mpg's. I can live with that!

Next test will be the last week of March when I go on vacation.
