ecoboost engine oil - blend or straight synthetic?
i did the search and scrolled down thru the posts and do not see if anyone has commented on the results of what oil they use in the ecoboost engine.
from the factory and at the dealer the blend is used. has anyone changed to straight synthetic say, mobil 1 and seen a difference in fuel economy?
i had my 5K oil change done at the dealer. when i come up to the 10K change i can get a free change at the dealer again but i am thinking maybe of doing it myself and putting mobil 1 in. im sure it would be better for the motor. but what about the mpg's?

My first two oil changes have been with the Motorcraft blend. Last night I changed it and went with Castrol Edge mainly because it came in the 5 quart jug and the Motorcraft doesn't. I will always run some type of synthetic in my EB. Other makes have had problems with turbo motors sludging up, I prefer not to deal with that.

I picked up a 12 EB two weeks ago and the salesguy told me it had straight synthetic in it from factory. He reccomended the blended or 100 for future oil changes.
I didn't put a lot of stock in what he said after he tried to tell me I had keyless entry because there was a pin number with my owners manual.
The same guy asked if I had an automatic in my Bullitt and what color it was.
Sheez...get with the program.

We're also only getting through most of the factory/break-in chatter in those UOA's as most haven't put enough miles and oil changes in yet. We'll wait until there's more out there to call it "bad". Look at some of the Chevy motors, they'll run constant 30+ppm copper levels and it's normal, so judging a new motor with no baseline isn't a good measure.

I would say the test mules with over 100,000 miles are probably past break in. These engines are beating the oil up pretty bad. I would suggest not running any oil, regardless of basestock, past 5000 miles. There's a lot more to an oil performing function than TBN. I would question the value of any oil regardless of basestock that has sheared from a 5w-30 to a 5w-10. Yer truck, yer money.

I used the MC full syn. Walmart sells both here and full was only 40 cents more per quart. I would use either frankly but at 40 cents a qt more my as well go full. As far brand well oil is like ace holes everybody has one. Change it every 5-7k and be done with it. much thought and time beyond that your waisting your time and money

I would think the synthetic would do better with the heat and stress caused by the turbos. Granted there is a huge difference in design of recip vs jet engines but turbine engs have always used synthetic. This would be for a variety of reasons bit i believe the biggest benefit is its ability to stand up to high heat and the lubrication properties are greater.
