Just got clearance for 35s on my truck and I've done a bit of shopping around for tires and I cant seem to find what I want exactly. I want a rugged look but I need a good low price. Should I shoot for 35s or settle for 33s...?

HELP!!

 

What type of lift did you get? If you just got a leveling kit, then both will look good, but sometimes 35s look a little stuffed with just a leveling kit. You won't really see a big price difference in 33s and 35s, but one of the main things that will shoot up the price is width. Tires are one of those things were you get what you pay for. If you buy less expensive tires, then you may be replacing them a lot sooner than you would a better tires that costs a little more, so you are loosing money. Have you considered the Nitto trail grapplers? They seem to be a decent priced tire, and have a good tread life as well as the good looks of a m/t.

 

I'm running a 2.5" HBS leveling kit on 32s right now. I like my BFGs but they're too pricey when you get into the bigger sizes. My cousin has some on his tacoma and he loves them, but do 35s even come in a lower width than 12.50? And if so, do they come in a smaller width in the Nittos?

 

And I meant to say my cousin has the Nittos on his tacoma, and i love your truck btw

 

Most 35s in a 20 size are an E rated tire, is that needed on a half ton truck? Not sure what size your wheels are but I have been looking and load seems to make a big difference.

 

I think I'm going to go for a 34" tire in the Nitto Trail Grappler, but I've always been confused about what a load is. I have 17s on my truck and I plan on buying the same size rim but i'm getting '06 Ford OEM rims and having them powder coated.

 

In standard sizes, you normally don't see a 35 in anything under a 12.50, but you can get metric sizes which come in the same height, but have a larger variety of widths ranging from about 10-14" wide. If you go with stock 17s, I believe that most of them are a 7.5" wide wheel, which means that you have to stick with a relatively narrow tire, around 10" wide. I would suggest going with a factory 18" wheel, which is wider than the 17, or aftermarket wheels that are wider. Wider wheels and tires will give you that rugged look that you want, along with some good, aggressive tires.

 

A good size that offers a lot of tires to pick from is 315/70/17 , go to Discount tire or Tire Rack and put in that size and you can look at them . One advantage at Tire Rack is they give all specs of tire . You can look at weight which is important,

 

Why does tire rack not carry Nitto?
As popular as they are it makes no sense.

 

You can run a 12.50 on a stock rim even though it is only 7.5 wide. I have 35x 12.50's and 37x12.50's on stock rims.

Won't it cause some ballooning of the tire and uneven wear on it though since the wheel is so narrow?
