f150 rear end, "pumpkin"

hi all i have a stupid question to ask. would the pumpkin from a 1991 f150 8.8 3.55 rear axle fit in my 1997? i was just wondering because we have the axle laying around and mine has a clunk when i go into a forward gear or reverse. Yes i've checked to make sure it wasn't the tranny going, but before it decides to go because of this spinning into gear in the rear end. eventually id like to put a lift and re-gear the darn thing anyways. Any ideas would help.
