Reverse gear out, anything to beef up the transmission?

My reverse gear went out on me yesterday (2004 F150 Lariat 5.4)
so I need to have the tranny rebuilt I assume?

Also, is there something I should look into, a kit or part to beef up my transmission?

In doing this will I need to change anything on my gryphon custom tune?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks 88! This isn't the first time you've chimed into one of my threads with helpful information. It's much appreciated!

So I was just on the phone with a local transmission shop I was referred and I was given 2 quotes.

The first was for a complete rebuild for $1,750
And the second was $2,250.

The reason I got two quotes is because I'm not sure which transmission I have?

The 4R70W was $1,750
And the 4R100 was quoted $2,250.

Can someone confirm which transmission I have and also if the above said quotes sound fair?

Thanks

Neither - you should have a 4R75E. What's the TRANS code on your door jamb sticker?

Unfortunatley I am not near my truck, I'm at work and the truck is at home.

How many types of transmission could I have?
Anyone out there with the same truck as me?

Any word on whether I can add a shift kit with my php gryphon tune and not have to change anything on it?

I have a 87 performance tune. And I know the shift points/firmness were altered so I wanted to ask.

Just wanting to add to the thread that from what I've been reading online, it's not good to have the tune and the shift kit.
I've read that people who have a tuner have the transmission values set at 0 so they can run the shift kit.

I think I'll just pass on the shift kit.

You have a 4r75e......a valve body is the way to go......a good tuner like Bill can adjust your tunes for it....look at the website I posted before....they sell them too....

So just got back from dropping my truck off at the transmission shop.

I'll post up what the issue was once I hear something.

It was hard to leave my baby alone for major surgery.

LOL, Thank's for the support 88!

Looks like o'l bessy made it through surgery with no complications.

Turns out she needed a rebuild. Reverse gear was blown, metal shavings in the pan. I'm $1,750 lighter in the pocket : (

Well at least now I'll have no trans worries for a while. Rebuild comes with a 18 month/ 18,000k warranty : )

I'll be picking her up first thing in the morning. I have a set of 09' stickers and decals to spoil her with when she gets home : )

Also, interior & exterior led's are on order.
Just need to find some Bilstein 4-6" adjustable struts to replace the 6" hunk of metal spacer up front.
