New 6-speed shifting hard

I just got a 2011 Lariat about 3 weeks ago, and I must say I'm not really impressed with the new transmission. I'm not a mechanic, so I don't know if 'shifting hard' was the right term to use, but it has about a second pause when shifting from 1st to 2nd. And if I almost come to a stop, and start going again it sometimes jerks like it slipped. Is anyone else having these issues with the new 6-speeds? I drive my wife's Corolla all the time, and I can't even feel it shift at all. I just wish this new tranny would shift smoother.

I have a 2010 F-150 1,300 miles. Have been experiencing the same pause in shifting. Saturday I was pulling into restaurant. Slowed down to make to right turn then needed a little speed to make the up incline and felt a hard shift. Have been wondering whether to take it in but thought with all the new on board diagnostics something would red flag telling my there is a problem. I was hoping the 6 speed would be better on gas mileage but not impressed. 15 mpg city.

Yeah, I googled it and found A LOT of people complaining about their transmissions shifting hard. A few people talked about the dealership 'flashing' the computer, and it helped a little, but came back after a couple of weeks. As long as it's under warranty I'll be fine. I'll probably trade it in when the warranty goes out lol.

Harsh shifting 1st to 2nd

I have a 2010 with the 5.4 and 6 speed auto and 355 gears. I have 7,500 miles on it. I have the same problem with the shift from 1st to 2nd. Took it to the dealer and they said everything is fine. The mystery I have with mine is in the morning when it is cold for about the first 3 miles I drive residential streets at speeds around 30mph and the transmission seems to be hunting between 3rd and 4th. If I speed up it does not do it and it quits doing it after a few miles. Again took it to the dealer and no codes. Left it overnight and they could not get it to do anything but then again they are on a main roadway where the speed is 45mph so you have to accelerate quickly or get run over.

I can live with the symptom, I just want to make sure there won't be major problems in the future as a result.

I'm getting 17mpg in the city and 21 to 22 on the highway.

I got it too. I don't have a hard shift, but once in about every 30 pull outs it will seem to slip 1st to 2nd. I am also happy with 16/17 and 20/22 MPG.

I had a few harder 3-4 shifts when the truck had less than 80 miles on it ... now it's got around 215 miles on it and any hard shifts have gone away. I'm hoping it stays that way!

I get that hard 3-4 shift on my 11 Ecoboost 4-5 times a week. I only have 2000 miles on mine so I'm not too worried yet. Around 700 miles I took it to the dealer- suprise they couldn't duplicate it. I can live with it for now.

This is a known trans shifting issue with ford and there has been TSB's sent out by for to fix affected models. search some of the forums and you will see more about it. I took mine in for a reflash and it helped a little but may get it back every now and then.

Since the first day or two, I haven't had any rough shifts, except the first couple in the morning - from reverse to neutral or drive, but only if I'm still moving. If I stop before shifting, it doesn't do it (that I've noticed). I'll try and pay attention this week to see if it's still happening.

It's not a big deal for me - I figure, it's a truck, it shouldn't be as smooth as a luxury car.
